Celebrating small victories

Wednesday, March 07, 2012

A friend recently told me the key to success is to celebrate small victories. My victories and goals may seem easy to some, but are a challenge for me. That's why I love Spark People. I can post a simple thing on a message board and get a round of applause from complete strangers. They celebrate me without even knowing me. No, I can't run 3.2 miles yet, I can't even run 30 mins yet. But I won't let that get in my way. I will celebrate my 20 min continuous run. I will stop feeling like I'm inadequate because the person next to me on the treadmill is running faster and longer.

I think I'd like to use my blog to document my celebrations, small steps towards my goals.

Today, I celebrate the fact that I got up before work to fit a run in. It took a ton of strength (and a pep talk from my DH) to get out of bed 1 hour earlier- but my run is done. Hopefully that determination will continue throughout the day.

I'm also celebrating 2 days of blogging. I've always been a people pleaser, and never like expressing my opinions for fear of judgement. It's a BIG deal for me to write my thoughts and feelings down knowing that other people can easily access them. I'm usually good if I know my audience, then I can cater my voice to fit their views. This blog is an exercise in putting me out there and being ok with it.

Oh Melissa! Hooray for you!! I'm so proud of you for getting up an hour early to run! And running for 20 min., when you haven't been running, IS a big deal. You keep going girl! And I'm like you when it comes to blogging. The blogging is more for us but it does also offer encouragement and insight for others. You've taken a big step by "putting yourself and your honest thoughts out there". You're really on your way in this journey. Blessings to you!

Getting up an hour early to run is 2 successes. I count the getting out of bed on a cold morning earlier than you are used to as its own success, worthy of celebration. For me, anyways, going for the run is easier than putting my feet on the cold floor out of a sound sleep. So kudos X2!
