Off the treadmill and onto the sidewalks! Yay for spring-like weather!!

The last two days I stepped outside for some wonderful walking! How I have missed the sunshine and fresh (somewhat... more about that below) air! Yesterday I was in need of some bananas, so tucked into my fanny-pack a little light-weight backpack, keys, phone and water and off I went with my MP3 player buds in my ears and my pedometer attached to my hip. That was a 2mile walk. Unexpected lesson learned? Don't throw 6 pounds of ripened bananas onto your back while briskly walking. Some will not survive the journey. At just ten cents a pound, I didn't feel too badly about losing 3 of them, but still...
Speaking of bananas, I had some bloodwork done yesterday morning at the doctor's office and found my potassium level was just over high end of normal. Potassium is not easily obtained in an everyday diet, so on one hand I am quite proud of myself for having kept my level at a maximum. On the other hand, as with all things, too much of a good thing is no longer a good thing. So, I am adjusting my mid-afternoon snack by removing my 2nd banana of the day and replacing it with an apple or unsweetened applesauce or whatever other fruit catches my fancy.
Today, I ventured out on a 3mile walk. At my half-way point I was startled to see my Husband's car pull up beside me. He and his Operations Director were on their way to check out a facility nearby which they were considering as the location for Staff Appreciation Day. I went along and they shortly dropped me off where I had left off so I could complete my walk.
As the breeze today was blowing in from the west, the aroma of the stockyard 2 miles away was pretty strong; thus, my caveat above. I hesitated to open the house windows, but it's been months since any air has flowed through from outside, so open they are now...
I feel a little more energized having gone outside for my walks. More so than I do after a treadmill walk. I am looking forward to the coming months and getting back out on my favorite walking trail really soon!
Happy Spring Everybody!
