I'm back in the game

Monday, March 05, 2012

I've had a rough year so far. I hurt my back around Christmas and a large part of January I wasn't able to do the things I had been doing fitness wise. Then in February I developed high blood pressure and got started on medication. That was a bummer, especially since I had made such great changes in my life and always had perfectly normal BP when I ate crap, weighed 50 lbs more and rarely exercised. After 2+ weeks on the med, I'm finally getting good BP readings again. Today was 104/68 :-)

I had been scared to do more than walk when I was getting readings in the upper 180's/120's. My gym membership just sat. Now I feel ready to get back in the game. I went to the gym last night and was there for 2 hours. It felt great!

I have my first half marathon in less than 2 weeks! I ever far behind in training with being basically out of commission from part of December til March. My plan was to do walk/run intervals, which I hope to still do, but my time will be drastically slower with not being able to get ready for it like I had planned. I'm not letting it get me down though...I will get through it with my good friend and co-worker by my side and we will cross that finish line one way or another :-) I'm so excited to do this with some friends from my Fabulous Fitness FB team. Hope they don't forget Katina and I since they will likely all finish 1.5-2 hrs before we do, LOL.

Carla, I'm so glad to read that your meds have finally kicked in and that your blood pressure is under control. That is scary for anyone! You'll finish the marathon, I know. Just don't push yourself, and let your body guide you, and you'll do fine. emoticon emoticon

Glad you're doing a whole lot better! Glad you've got that b.p. matter covered. Like they say, blood pressure is no joke. emoticon

Glad to hear that the BP is under control - my Dr. tells me that no matter how healthy I am, I'll likely need BP meds as I age (damn those genetics!). It's hard getting back in the swing, but I'm sure you can do it.

Carla, I'm happy that you are able to get back on track. Sorry about the high blood pressure. I deal with that too. Hope you have a great day!

So glad things are looking up for you, Carla. Being "out of the game" due to injury or illness just suck the life out of people.

So glad you BP is under control. I was really worried about you. I know the doc said you could do the 1/2 marathon but as your MOM, I still am going to worry about you doing that. I do wish you luck and hope you will listen to your body when it talks to you........I love you. Glad you have started back at the gym to get yourself back on track. I know you can do this because of what you have done so far. It is good you have your friends to back you up.
