Last week I had to go to Chicago for a training class. Apparently it came free when we purchased our mass spectrometer. I think I should have gone a couple of months ago, though. I already knew most of the stuff that was covered in the class.
They did give us lunch every day so that was a bonus. Yes, I had a small piece of the Chicago-style pizza.
My husband came along. He rented a car and drove around to various places while I was in class all day. We did get to the city on Friday night and checked out the Field Museum and saw a concert at Blue Chicago. Shirley Johnson. She was good and had a great band. Unfortunately we missed the 10:40pm train back to Wood Dale and had to wait for 2 hours for the next one. We were pretty tired when we flew back on Saturday.
I was good and kept up with my running and did some elliptical as cross training. I got in a 3 mile "long run" on Sunday.

Sounds like a nice trip to Chicago, Nat! So glad you got to keep up with your running while there. I have never been to Chicago, but my husband belongs to a Marine Corps reserve unit there. I am guessing I will be going up there eventually for a Marine Corps Birthday ball or something.

Did you get to run in Chicago? I ran down by the lake in December 2010 and found it to be so cold and windy but the path and the view are just gorgeous!

    Hi Natalie,

Sounds like you had a good time. I went to the Fields Museum when I was in Chicago last year. I just wanted to see the Maneaters of the Savo, also known as the "Ghost" and the "Darkness". Big cats.

Thanks, Bruce

So nice you had a change of scenery even if work did absorb a lot of the time you spent in Chicago. Lucky DH to have had the full days to explore and see the city. Chicago is on my list of cities to visit. I have two cousins who were born there although they no longer live there. The Field Museum sounds awesome.

Sounds like a good week. My husband used to come to conferences with me all the time. We've visited a lot of really cool places we never would have gone if not for me being sent there. YAY for getting the mileage back up - feels great, doesn't it?

The Field Museum is great, isn't it? We have gone to Chicago twice a year for the opera for the last 15 years or so, until this year. I've missed the trips, but maybe not the traveling, if you know what I mean.

oh boy! i would love to go to Chicago! not to work though. betcha you could have taught the class yourself. too bad you didnt get to do a bit more sightseeing. that is a bummer. sort of how my trip to Baton Rouge was, all work and no play. did you freeze there? compared to California, i would expect you to be miserable.

Too bad the training was futile but Chicago is FUN especially the Field Museum. How does your foot feel? Have you been running?
