Looking in the mirror today...

Monday, March 05, 2012

After work today I decided to clean up my bedroom. I was sitting on the bed, folding clothes when I caught a glimpse of myself in my full length mirror. And suddenly became upset....oh, my God, is this how other people see me when I'm sitting down? Standing up, I think I look much better or at least can hide it better. So, what am I doing, what am I waiting for? I keep trying and trying....no, I know I'm not giving it 110%...but shouldn't little changes make a difference? It doesn't seem it. I see big, flabby arms, big thighs and a belly that's more pronounced when I sit. So I came to Spark....I'm feeling somewhat defeated, but yet I made a new goal and I'm going to the gym tonight. I'm not really sure why I'm blogging, actually I've never done it before...first blog. I was talking with a friend who had gastric bypass last year and is looking really good, another acquaintance I saw who had gastric is at 102 lb. weight loss. And another friend is getting ready to have gastric. I also go to a Lifesteps class once a wk and the teacher mentioned going to a meeting on bariatric surgery. It makes me think about it, but I would love to be able to do this myself . Until I decide about that, I will continue to try, but I hope that I can commit everything to it and will see results......

I, too, have a love/hate relationship with the mirror. I don't have anything vital to add to what's already been said, but I know you can do it. Just takes time and patience.

first off you need a hug. That had to be an emotional moment and good for you on getting through it with positive actions. This is not an easy thing to do, if it was easy everyone would be at a healthy weight. Be patient with yourself and you will find the little steps lead to big results. Focus on one habit or meal or goal at a time, and then add more. You can do this, if you ever need to talk feel free to send me a message any old time. emoticon emoticon

You can do it on your own without surgery, just take baby steps!!!! It takes 21 days to make a habit.. I started working out in Sept after way too long away from it and it took me 3 months for exercise to become a habit and something that I enjoy doing!!! I just started working on my nutrition in January and it's almost a habit now.. You can do it!!! Use your spark friends for support! emoticon

I understand how you feel. The mirror and I...we have a tenuous relationship at best. You can do this. Surgery should be the last option for you. You just need to be patient, my friend. I just repeat to myself..."I didn't gain this weight overnight, so I wont lose it overnight." No matter how much I want that "quick fix" I need to do this right. You need support...you need to talk to those who know how you feel...that is what Spark is for. We are all in this together.

emoticon on taking that all important first step in committing to a healthy, new lifestyle!
I think you made an awesome choice on trying to this yourself before going into gastric surgery. Spark is a fantastic place- a great community full of all the tools to help you along the way and not to mention all of the support from all the friends you make. You are never alone on this path! We are all in this together! emoticon While it does take alot of hardwork, commitment & dedication- it is definateley possible to do this without surgery. Speaking from some experience- although I'm not at goal YET, Spark has helped me regain my life and confidence. I know it will do the same for you! emoticon

I want to wish you the very best of success on your journey!
