Monday, March 05, 2012

Growing up we could,as a family of 7,fit all we had in 3 boxes!Me my dh&dd live about 8 minutes from FT,HOOD.On any given day you can drive into neighborhoods and see perfectly good furniture and boxes of clothes for the trash truck!!They are moving out and didnt make arrangements for Salvation Army,Goodwill or the Shelter. They often throw away pets too!My DH and I were driving around one day and found a mint condition washer and dryer on the street along with a beautiful carpet,8 person dining set&buffet, patio set and bar,Curtains of all sizes, dishes, pans and a pool table. We found a lazy boy recliner yesterday and a new mattress set for our grandson/The plastic was still on it!!!Trees still in the containers from Lowes and a weight set that was new!Of course alot of people are too shy to ask but we always make sure before we take anything! If only they wanted to throw out a car!!LOL mine is about to be in the junk yard. The car lots want as much for some used cars as the new ones!!!Anyway I see a practically new dresser down the street and I've got my handy dolly ready to go and get it....JUNKING is what the Germans call it! emoticonSUSAN

I am the queen of recycling and have been into saving good stuff for many years. I believe growing up like you did, with so little makes us appreciate the usefulness of things others maight consider trash. Keep up the good work!

SCORE!! I guess in your area you would have alot of people moving without much notice. Around here, I have NEVER seen one thing like that out with anybody's trash. The trick around here is to put out furniture at the end of the driveway with a big sign that says "Free". In a college community, it's gone in the blink of an eye.

Wow what a great way to furnish a house. Are the people throwing it away always gracious to you and say you can have it?
This is also a great way to keep these items out of the land fill. Good going.
