When I first joined SparkPeople, I had my doubts as this was not my first attempt at losing weight and trying to get fitter. And because I had my doubts, when I set my goal weight, I did not select the weight I really needed to get to, but chose an interim goal. I figured If I reached the interim goal that would provide me with incentive to go further (and prove to me this website works!) As I mentioned in an earlier blog, I selected as my goal weight 244 lbs (I started at 291). Why such an odd weight? That was what I weighed when I got married almost 22 years ago. Well the scale this morning read 244 lbs! I have reached my interim goal! I originally wanted to reach this goal by April 2012 but I am a few weeks early. Why April? I try to visit my mom and family in Brooklyn every April. She has been on my back for as long as I can remember about doing something about my health and weight; and I thought if this site worked, it would be a pleasant surprise for her. But lest you think I'm done, I'm not. I have set another (reasonable) goal. I would like to reach 200 lbs by February 2013. How will I do it? By sticking to the plan laid out for me by SparkPeople. By tracking all food that enters my mouth and remaining committed to exercising. By continuing to read the blogs, tips and stories on this website that continue to keep me motivated. And by remembering I'm not on a diet, but I'm involved in a lifestyle change. Even when my final goal is reached, I'm resolved to continue monitoring what I eat and tracking. Exercise has been a part of my weekly routine for 5 years now, so I don't see that changing. And to all on this site who have inspired me, congratulated me and motivated me to stay the course, I want to thank you all for your support thus far. But as I said, I'm not finished, because a lifestyle change has the word 'life' in it. So I am committed to this for life.
