Wake up and smell the...Citrus?

Sunday, March 04, 2012

An incident that happened a few years ago inspired me to write this blog.

I was in Bath and Body Works with my mother and we were shopping for some new scents. I love anything citrus-y but I refused to buy it because my hubby doesn't prefer those fragrances. He likes them sweet and heavy. I guess they remind him of me emoticon. But I like things light and refreshing. Something to lift me up. Something hubby hasn't been able to do in many years. emoticon

So, I bought what he likes and mom just rolled her eyes and told me I was silly for doing so. "Buy what you like. What makes YOU happy." And she proceeded to buy what she liked and she was happy.

Me...not so happy. emoticon But hubby...very happy. emoticon Forward wind several years and I'm still doing things to make others happy.

Why? emoticon

So, today Sunday March 4, 2012 I vow to do something to make myself happy.

I'm going to BBW and I'm going to buy whatever citrus scent there is that makes me happy.

Most of you know that I'm remodeling my guest bathroom. I'm going to paint it a bright citrus-y shade. It could be lime green, lemony yellow, or tangerine orange. "Why?" I ask myself. "Why Not?" my alter ego (yes I have one and she's awesome!) says.

So, I'm off to make myself happy. It seems like a small step but hopefully it will make a BIG impact.

Make today so beautiful that it's worth remembering!
Hattie emoticon

Great colors! Go for it! And I'm in love it's your alter ego. Hee hee.
I caught myself doing exactly what you mentioned above recently, but regarding my hair style: talking myself into leaving it brown since my DH doesn't like red hair. I love red hair, and had denied myself the red 'do for him. For him? Yep.
So I dyed it red. I love it. Plus, it put a bit of skip in my stride, like I was finding myself : )

Citrus yourself silly Hattie! : )

Love the blog! I love the color ideas too and would "vote" for tangerine too. But that green you show is pretty awesome too! Can't go wrong with any of them!! Glad you wised up and got a scent for you! If its going on YOUR body, it should be what you like! You have to smell it all day! Now when buying for him, then he can pick. :-) Although I will admit, when I buy Joel cologne, I do tend to pick a scent I like! But in my defense, if he didn't like it, I wouldn't buy it again. Post photos of that room as you go or when done!

Glad your'e back! we do seem to be conditioned towards doing for others and thinking of them first...have fun with the new you let us know what colour you end up with!
My kitchen is painted red with cream cupboards .... Been doing our bedroom, got new bedstead, black buffalo leather they say, just got the chest of drawers and wardrobes in oak, with a lovely mirrored picture of red rose on the wall....now to decide change of colours for the bed and curtains...hubby drawn to aubergine when out shopping today which I suppose is a change for him he is usually the more neutral of the two of us!

Oh, Hattie, this blog, like you, is a delight. Once you put that citrus scent on, and hug your man a few dozen times, he will come to associate that scent with the new you, the lighter, healthier, sassier Miss Hattie. I love citrus scents, and colors, as well. One of these days, I swear, I am going to have a white kitchen with orange accents splashed here and there. I know, it sounds appalling to some people. My current kitchen is earthtones with stainless appliances. I think stainless is over-hyped and too high maintenance. I do love taupe and earthy tones since my house, which is very PacificNorthwest style - wood and stone, etc., is filled with those soothing colors. Anyway, all that to say that if you start taking votes, I am voting for the tangerine bath (and I want photos - love those that you used above to show the colors). Thanks for sharing that story about you and your mama. She is wise - I can tell you are related.

I love the colors. Be true to you and he will see that it is better. Just be true to you. It's what is right.

Tangerine is THE color of the year (if the fiber fashion sites are to be believed). I love all of your color ideas. I don't think there's a 'wrong' in your list!
