so here it is...First Sunday again. I didn't find anybody to do the devotional today, so it's all mine. That's okay, I'm prepared (for once!)
This is what I have planned:
When you re-read something or watch a favorite movie, what you get from it will differ based on your perspective at the time. If you really LISTEN to the words, the same is true of the prayers and oaths we say over and over as Christians.
The Lord's Prayer is a good example. We had a previous pastor who always put emphasis on thy in two places: “Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. THY kingdom come, THY will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” That helps me realize that no matter what, God is in charge. Things will be done His way, in His time. I still hear that emphasis when I say the prayer.
Another part of the Lord's Prayer that stands out to me is, “Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.” How terrible would it be if God really was as bad at forgiving as we are?!? When we accept Jesus, our slate is clean. God's forgiveness is perfect and unconditional.
It is very difficult for us to forgive AND forget, but if you manage to do so the freedom from those hard feelings is glorious. Buddha said, “Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at some one else; you are the one who gets burned.” The person you feel has wronged you has moved on and forgotten the slight. Holding on to your bitterness gives them power over you. Take control! Let it go. As Bernard Meltzer said, “When you forgive, you in no way change the past – but you sure do change the future.”
How can you tell if you've truly forgiven? “You will know that forgiveness has begun when you can recall those who hurt you and feel the power to wish them well.” (Lewis B. Smedes)
our bad weather has cleared with no serious injuries or deaths in GA from what I've heard. Just some property damage and lots of debris. Other states have had it really bad.
Yesterday while I was out my boss called to let me know that a client had passed away. The man who died has a son who is a college sophomore. The mom died right around Thanksgiving. I feel so bad for this young man! When you say your prayers, please say a prayer for JT. I cannot imagine what he's going thru. His parents were both wonderful people.
I'm happy I did Pilates this morning. I really needed those stretches. I have a 5k this afternoon. Looks like the weather will be perfect. I hope I can improve on last year's time. I think I placed in my age group last year. It all depends on how many REAL runners my age show up. I can only compete with the beginners!
happy Sunday, Spark friends
