Shame and Bullying or Education?? What's your take?

Thursday, March 01, 2012

Apparently people who designed the new Disney "Habit Heroes" display either weren't thinking or had never been over weight. Imaging being told if you are fat you are mean and icky, not to mention you have no control and obviously do nothing but sit around eating hohos all day. REALLY???? Seriously???? I am SO glad it was shut down. My mother (who was ALWAYS overweight since I was born although she was thin when she was young) use to feed me fattening foods and would yell at us kids when we ate any fruit or vegetables because "THOSE ARE FOR (a meal or dish or making jam or whatever)" and we were NOT TO EAT THEM ALL UP! We lived on pasta, tinned soup and whatever cheap meat (usually hamburger) they could get. Or potatos or what not. Until my Dad started a garden when we were about 10-12ish and we ate out of that for about 4 years before it got to be too much for him. I am able to eat the EXACT same thing my sister does day in and out and gain weight while she will lose. It's the way my body works. It isn't because I sit around on my butt watching TV and eating ding dong. Then every couple months she would yell at me for being fat and eating "too much" and being lazy (I played outside ALL THE TIME!!) and made fun of me being fat - even though SHE was and SHE was the one feeding me!! This is just wrong.

very rarely are heroes overweight. at best they are the funny sidekick that screw up everything. i just save time by not watching tv or paying to much attention to pop culture. i focus on being active and improving my attitude and my abilities. Parents need to know what their children are watching/doing and put things like this into perspective.

That's absolutely awful! On top of that, the exhibit probably exhorted the poor things to eat more rice and grains! Yarghhhhhhh!

Wow! The author summed it up with the blatant hypocrisy of this portrayal as you walk through vendors selling hot dogs and funnel cakes!
