Update on Lower Carb Experiment!

Thursday, March 01, 2012

Well, I've got good news! I've been doing my "lower carb" experiment for 3 weeks, now. My tentative goal was to keep my carbs under 50% on 5 out of 7 days (allowing for 1-2 cheat days per week - usually my date days with the boy!). I haven't quite met my goal every week, but usually when I've gone over on an extra day, it's been very close to 50% (like 51 or 52%). I like the feeling of satiety that this style of eating gives me - I seem to stay full longer on lower calories when I"m eating a low carb snack or dinner. So, I think this way of eating is helping me keep my calorie intake lower overall. Also, it's added considerably more "interest" to my diet - I think I was getting really bored of eating the same types of food, before! Lowering my carbs has gotten me to try new foods, like Body Fortress Whey Protein Powder ($15 for 2lb at Walmart - it has good reviews, and tastes great, especially for the price. 1 scoop = 130 calories, 26 grams of protein. I've been adding 1/2 scoop to my oatmeal or smoothies).

So, drumroll..... emoticon emoticon emoticon

Before trying this experiment, I was losing an average of .5 lb/week. In the 3 weeks of the experiment, I've lost an average of 1 lb/week! It's not a huge change, but then again my calorie intake hasn't shifted very drastically, either. I'm counting the experiment a success, and I'm going to keep going with it!

Looking forward, I've got 5 weeks until the end of BLC18. If I can keep up my new rate of weight loss, I'll reach 155 by then! I'm sooooooooooo close to busting into the 150s (scale said 160.1 this morning), and I really want to get there. I've been stuck in the 160s since October, with my long stall over the holidays and my slow weight loss since January. Even though the 160s are treating me well, I'm soooo ready to move on!

Speaking of moving on, I've been forging ahead with C25K! This is Week 7 for me, and I'm up to 26 minutes of continuous jogging! Even though my weight has been changing very slowly for the last 7 weeks (I've only lost 5 pounds since starting C25K), I have lost inches, and my thighs look visibly smaller to me. Also, I've fit into a new pair of size 12 pants, so I'm actually wearing more 12s than 14s these days! I'm amazed by how much my body has adapted, to go from barely able to jog for 60 seconds, to now jogging for almost half an hour! Sticking to the program is also keeping me on track with exercise, and is super-motivating. Yay for C25K!

What are you talkling about girl! Going from a loss of .5 to 1 pound is a 100% improvement. Good on you. Congrats.

I am doing the same experiment although with a slightly different emphasis so by the end of BLC we could compare notes. I do first and see where it is taking me but so far it looking promising.

Just keep on keeping on. You are on your to butterfly size.

a one pound a week consistent loss is AWESOME! Shaking up your diet really seems to have shaken up your metabolism. Keep it up! I have even read then throwing in those higher carb days are really good for your metabolism because they keep your body guessing!

Keep up the great work on C25K!
