It is tough for me to stick to a workout plan whether it is due to boredom, life getting in the way or lack of motivation. I have created a plan that works for me:
1.) Signed up to run the Indy Mini-Marathon on May 5, 2012 with a friend who keeps me accountable. Plus, I have found a ton of motivation by giving myself a tangible goal (i.e. finish the mini-marathon) to work toward.
2.) Joined my local YMCA (no excuses to skip running if the weather is harsh).
3.) Became a morning workout gal (less chance of skipping a workout)
4.) Bought a pedometer. It was shocking to see the difference between how many steps I walk on my exercise days vs. my off days.
5.) Created a weekly workout plan that works for me:
- 3 mile run at the gym (2 times/week)
- Turbo Jam sculpt at home (2 times/week)
- Insanity at home (1 time/ week)
- Yoga/Pilates/Insanity recovery (1 time/week)
6.) Allow myself to be flexible. For example, if I can only do 2.5 miles, I walk extra steps on my lunch break. Before, I would just be upset about being a "failure" for not meeting my weekly goals. Now I realize everyone hits minor bumps during our weight loss journey, and it's not the end of the world as long as you quickly get back on track.
What exercise plan works for you?
