e Weight Gain.....PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

Wednesday, February 29, 2012

On the advice of my doctor, I had the NovaSure procedure done almost 6 months ago. We sat in his office and discussed, in length, any possible risks and side effects associated with the procedure. Possible weight gain was the side effect I was most concerned with as I have been recovering from knee reconstruction surgery and wanted to make sure there would be no possibility of stressing the knee due to increasing weight. He assured me that weight gain was NOT a side effect and would, in no way, be an issue for me.

Low and behold, the pounds started creeping up...slowly at first (which I attributed to the winter/holiday weight we tend to put on), then it seemed to spiral out of control. A total of 30 pounds in less than 6 months!!!!! What's worse is that the weight is NOT evenly distributed, it's concentrated right in the mid-section! My gut is now so huge that not only do I look like I'm pregnant, but I look like I'm well into my 2nd tri-mester!

I've been so depressed because nothing I do seems to help. I don't want to move, my clothes don't fit and I feel fat and ugly. I've been back to the doctor...he still assures me that the procedure went perfectly and he still assures me that the weight gain is NOT associated with the procedure.

I then decided to head over to my family doctor to have my thyroid checked...maybe that was the problem? NOPE! Completely normal. So now I'm back to square one...trying to take this weight off that calls my belly it's new home. Has anyone out there had the NovaSure procedure done and are experiencing the same problem? If so, how do you deal with it? If not, maybe someone out there has some other advice...maybe something I didn't think to try, or something that works for you.

Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated and thank you for taking the time to read my blog and reach out to someone who's at the end of her proverbial rope!

Same here, I thought I had found the key to successful weight loss. I lost 25lbs (1lb/week) just by cutting out all sugary foods and drinks, that weight lost lasted two full years almost effortlessly until I had Novasure. Then I had the Novaure ablation in 2015 and I gained 3-5lbs almost immediately, and slowly gained back 20 of the 25 lbs.

Thankfully, I'm still under my original weight, but it's been much more of an effort to maintain this weight than it was losing the 25lbs in the first place. I also agree that it's the Novasure because I've even done more drastic dieting and exercising and nothing works. I do agree that it goes to your belly also. I think I had a flatter stomach before I lost any weight than I do now after the Novasure even though I'm about 5lbs less than my heaviest.

I'd like to know how it's been since you posted this almost 6 years ago!

I had the same procedure two years ago when I was 39. I have since gained almost 30lbs and I did not change my eating behaviors or level of exercise at all. I had no idea this could be a side effect and I'm really bummed about it. In the beginning it was great, my heavy periods disappeared and I didn't have any pain or problems. As time has passed I have started to get small periods, which is no big deal, but they are random and hard to track. You do still get the moody feelings associated with a regular period and sometimes cramps. If it wasn't for the weight gain I'd have no complaints, my periods were awful and lasted 5-7 days, every few weeks. Now I can scuba and do all my water sports with little worry of the trip being ruined.

A good friend of mine had the procedure the same year I did and she also gained 20lbs but her periods didn't really go away, not very successful in her opinion. She told me her sister-in-law also did it with the same weight gain.. If only I had known, I don't think I would have done it. Yeah, periods suck but trying to fight this weight battle feels hopeless most days and its made me very uncomfortable and unhappy with how I feel. I have weight around my middle that I've never had before and clothes don't feel good and I know it doesn't look good!

I would say unless you can't live with whatever symptoms you are considering this procedure for don't bother until you have seriously weighed your options. I'd rather have the period back.

I had the NOVASURE procedure done in 2009 and to date I have gained about 35 pounds. I diet, I starve, I move around and try to be more active although I do not work out and it just keeps on coming. One day I accept it, the next I want to crawl under a rock and hide. I have a muffin top for the first time in my life!!!! I really wish I would have known that this was going to happen BEFORE I signed up for it. I do like not having the horrible monthly visits that I was dealing with and they were terrible only after I had a tubal litigation, another side effect they failed to mention to me BEFORE the process. I just wish there was something, some kind of hope. I guess I will keep looking.

I am not sure what the Nova sure procedure is. So can I ask if you are tracking all food. If so are you measuring your portions? With me I do not measure for a long time and start gaining I will start measuring portions again and it is a real eyeopener for me. What I figure is a portion....ends up being 2 or 3! Makes me feel like a real pig. But it does me good to measure once in a while. Good luck and don't feel alone.
