I am a vegetarian wishing to be vegan.

Monday, February 27, 2012

My DH an I became vegetarians about 3 years ago. It was a mutual decision, but was partly inspired by his heart disease. It was something we were slowly gravitating towards even without the health issues, and the more we learned how to fit this change into our everyday lives the more we loved it. This life style isn't for everyone but if you decide to embrace it, I don't think you would ever be able to turn back.
Now, I would love to go totally vegan but I have one problem that is also probably at the root of my being unable to lose all the weight. I love cheese! Absolutely adore it! I was totally able to turn my back on eggs, milk, juicy burgers, and all the varietys of steak, but not the cheese, which is one of the worst things to eat when you look at the fat content!
I just have to find something I love to nibble on as much as a chunk of Colby- jack!

I just ordered a Vegetarian Times magazine
from my GD as a fundraiser. I think this
should be quite helpful. Can't hurt to try!

...maybe check out Trader Joe's (over by Jordan Creek) for ideas. They probably have soy cheese (which I have never tried.) They have something called Better N Peanut butter that I have never tried either but some people like. Also, some of the Hy-vees let you grind your own nut butters (i.e. almond butter.) and you could pair that with an apple or carrots and celery

No I haven't. But now I will keep a eye open for it. Thank you! Why are you no longer able to eat it? Is it one item in it or all ?

Have you tried some of the seed butters? I loved the Pepita nut butter from Naturally Nutty. found out about it here on spark and use to mail order it. Was sad when i had to give 10 pounds of it way as I could no longer have it. It has pumpkin, sunflower, hemp and flax seed in it. Yum... They were trying to get it into stores that was last summer.
