I've just finished Week 3 of my training. It's been so hard going but now there is only a week and a half left!
This week was particularly hard. Especially on Thursday. We got sprayed with CS. In the US, they use a different version like Mace or Pepper Spray. It is one of the most unpleasant experiences of my life.
They sprayed us with a 3% concentration in gas, an aerosolized version of the liquid. It was horrible. I got caught in the side of my face and at first it didn't feel too bad but then all of a sudden it started to burn. CS is basically crystals of the chemical dissolved so when it hits you it reacts with the liquid on your skin, in your eyes, nose and mouth and stings, itches and burns. If you can avoid getting sprayed I would recommend it. To make it worse, when you're done you go and shower to get the crystals off. The problem was that where we were the showers were VERY hot and hot water reacts particularly well. So we all got a secondary exposure while trying to wash it off!! So we all spent about 20 minutes in the shower just trying to get it off. I think I used half a bottle of shower gel!
Luckily, I won't have to do that again and I'm going to be VERY slow to draw my CS in the field. I don't want to risk getting that stuff on me unless I really have to.
Between now and the end of the course we have 3 more assessments. Then I'll be qualified!
I hope you're all having a great weekend. I know here in London the weather has been marvellous.
