For our Harry Potter challenge, we are supposed to list our excuses we use during the day, and then write a counter excuse for each one. Well, for some reason, I can't create a list right now, so I will take you through my day and we'll explore the bad things and find ways to improve them. Feel free to leave a comment if you can list suggestions on improving or things that work for you.
I wake up in the morning, get dressed, pack my lunch, and then drive to work. I know what you're thinking, what about breakfast? Well, I'm not really a morning person and I don't know how to change that, so I will pack a glass of apple juice to take with me or make a smoothie. For real food, I have muffins or granola bars or snacky type stuff at work that I eat. I know I should eat a real breakfast, but I've always been on the go. That's kind of been engraved in me since high school, so I try to find a healthy way to do on the go, like a banana.
While I'm at work, as a school librarian, I meet with a class for 30 min at a time and read them a story and we check out books. I don't eat when the class is in the library, but when they aren't in the library, I can walk around and clean or work behind the desk on fixing books. For lunch, I eat in the teacher's lounge so I have interaction with them outside of their weekly library visit. I pack my lunch so I don't buy the school lunch. Usually it includes a frozen entree or a sandwich, a drink (water or soda), yogurt, and then other snack forms such as granola bars, carrots, apple sauce, pudding ... That may seem like a lot but I generally don't eat it all. Usually is the main dish, drink, yogurt, and then applesauce or carrots. Hmmm, maybe I should take out the other stuff I don't eat, so I'm not even tempted.
After work, I come home. Now is when the biggest excuse comes into play ... I don't have enough time. What do I do when I come home? I get on the computer and/or watch TV until bed. It's just me and my hubby so life is pretty boring. I'm in the process of moving to a new house and when that is complete I'll sign up for a gym membership. My hope is that I can start a habit of stopping at the gym on the way home. If I don't have a gym membership, then I can always take a walk/jog around the neighborhood or at a local park. I do have a bike so I can always bike instead. At home I have two exercise videos (by Coach Nicole), a big ball, and some hand weights. A down the road plan is to get a stationary bike and put it in one of the spare bedrooms with the TV, and make a rule that you have to bike during at least one show if you're going to watch TV. I'll probably put the ball in the same room as the TV so I have to bounce on the ball while watching instead of in a chair. There's some stuff that'll need to get updated (handyman projects) and the lawn will need some work, so maybe I can get him to save that stuff so we can both work on it when I get home.
So yeah, there's ways I can eat healthier, and there's plenty of time to exercise in the day. So why don't I? Well, because I'm lazy, and that is just a constant work in progress to correct.
