Freedom is not Free-- A Bittersweet Day

Friday, February 24, 2012

I wanted to make a separate entry from the my Birthday goal entry to talk about something pretty personal.

I am an Army wife.

My husband has been proudly serving since graduating from college in 2004.

In that time we've lost friends in the wars. It hurts to lose people you love. Well, on this day 3 years ago, another friend was lost. His name was Brian "Bubba" Bunting. His wife Nicki is a friend of mine and we leaned on each other quite a bit to get through the trials and tribulations of Army life (deployments, moves, etc.) Brian had just gotten back to Afghanistan from his 2 week R&R with his family when his humvee was hit by an IED (improvised explosive device). One week later, Nicki found out she was pregnant with their second child. It gave me great pause. Brian was a great soldier and an amazing Dad. So today my heart is a little heavy thinking about the pain his family has gone through, and the amazing little boy he never got the chance to know.

Thank you for supporting your husband while he selflessly serves our country. You are both American heros.
