Back from my Kidney Transplant! Also... I'm engaged!!

Thursday, February 23, 2012

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeere's AMANDA!!! I'm back on SP.

Four weeks ago TODAY, (January, 26, 2012) I had a kidney transplant at age 28. My wonderful father was my donor so we have been healing together. I'm already feeling better and I can't wait to fully see all the changes it will do for my life...

Now, over the summer, my diet got turned upside down. Black was white, left was right, I was so confused... all having to do with my end stage renal disease low-potassium, low sodium diet. HOWEVER, post-surgery, I can eat anything I want (in moderation, of course) except grapefruit, starfruit, and acai berry! haha Considering the transplant was only four weeks ago, I've let myself eat what I craved, enjoy having potatoes :-D, and just enjoy while I was in recovery.

That time is done! Today I entered my food into SP and I am ready to get back on the wagon. The least I can do is eat healthy and get in shape as a thank you to my father who donated his kidney for me. I want to be able to keep it for as long as possible!! We're talking a real, REAL reason for a lifestyle change here!

Now onto something else...
During Thanksgiving, my boyfriend of 5+ years proposed to me in front of our families, at a Thanksgiving/Christmas/My Birthday party. He gave me a present to open in front of everyone and inside each box was, well, a smaller box. He was amazing and made a little video from my parents videos.... here's the link if you're interested!

emoticon Wedding Date: June 29, 2013

So as you can see, I have PLENTY of reasons to lose weight and be healthy. Game ON!

Congratulations on the transplant and engagement! It's a beautiful ring. What a fun present. I liked his choice of music on the video.

I liked your feeling of needing to get healthy as a way of saying Thank You. Speaking as another parent, I know that would please him greatly if you were to be able to keep the kidney for a very long time. Healthy and happy is what parents want for their children.

Good to see you back. Have a great day!

Amanda, I want to encourage you to love your new kidney on your journey to health. There are topics about nutrition and other great info in our forums. Also there is great info on the national kidney foundation web site for life after transplant.

CONGRATS again on your new lease on life. I pray that both you and your dad have a great speedy recovery.
