Do you put thought into your shopping list?

Thursday, February 23, 2012

I love good sayings. A couple of my favorites are “Diet is not a verb”, and “You can’t eat what you don’t buy.”

I’m also a firm believer in writing- journaling, writing goals, action plans, etc.

So I started thinking. Your Diet (that is, your nutritional lifestyle) can be connected to your written health goals in the form of….. your shopping list.

Eating well can be more difficult than eating poorly. If you are monitoring your carb and sugar intake, making out your shopping list will take more time than going down the aisles and picking up whatever appeals to you.

Plan your meals carefully and make out your grocery list accordingly. Remember, you can’t eat what you don’t buy!

There are plenty of resources available on Spark to plan your healthy meals .

So, just as you write down your goals, your feelings, and your aspirations, so should you take the time to carefully write down the food that you will buy to fuel your body. And stick to it.

Stay strong,
Anne

I am learning the value of this, myself. I do agree with you. I just simply need to get better at it. I am a poor planner when it comes to making up meals. I have a hard time cooking when I am not feeling up to it. So, I think I have to start working on some ideas which are not that difficult that would carry me into the right place with my foods. I also need to lay down the gauntlet and budget more money for healthy foods. Thank you for your inspirational ideas!

I never go grocery shopping without a list--couldn't manage it at all. I also don't buy anything not on my list. If I did, I'd never even comee close to meeting my goals. I think a grocery list is a must for all of us. Jeannie

You really shared some great information and gave me something to think about. I need to always think ahead and plan my meals and a detailed shopping list. I'm not very good at expressing myself but will try to do a paragraph a day of what and how I'm doing, feeling, eating, etc. Thank you Anne.

What a great thought! Sometimes I wonder, how much thought do we actually put into those shoppping lists. Usually, they are just something to get overwith. I love that you have given people fuel for thought when shopping for the fuel for bodies. emoticon

I am a firm believer in you can't eat what you don't buy. It is so true for me. I know if I have a bottle of pop or chips or other junk food in the house, I will inhale it, portion control completely forgotten. Therefore, I just don't buy it.

The meal planning portion is so important, you are so right.

Really, once you start eating healthy and making your shopping list, you will find yourself using the same list over and over. At that point, shopping just becomes routine - you will be routinely grabbing the healthy stuff rather than the unhealthy stuff. :-)
