First off, I just have to share this. I suppose it shows the hilarity of life as a parent. For the last week or so, I've had 2 songs alternating through my head as earworms. Which songs, you ask? Well, the first is that David Guetta/Chris Brown/Lil Wayne song "I Can Only Imagine" (what, you say? upbeat dance music mixed with heavy autotune and a tad of lil wayne thrown in? YES PLEASE!). That probably isn't so strange. The second song however? Why, its none other than Spongebob Squarepants "Musical Doodle"! (Google it....there's a reason the title of the episode is "earworm"!). I'm not sure how much more different you can get....one is a song about trying to get some girl to sleep with you, and the other is a happy-go-lucky cartoon character with wacky antics. The best part? My 3 year old daughter also has it as an earworm. I think its her first...that I am aware of anyways. Its so cute, she'll sit there and sing it. Which then makes me break into song "Trying to stop it is futile! Lets sing along to the musical doodle! Do, do do do, do do do do, do!" LOVE IT.
Anyways, that was completely off topic. Lets see...health and fitness. Well, this weekend was relatively uneventful. Unless you count going to Sam's and spending the obligatory $150 on bulk items that will take a year to consume and then going to Monkey Joe's so our little girl could play on blow up things to her heart's content exciting. I did the powerflex class on Saturday morning, and I'm still sore. I somehow pulled a muscle deep in my butt during kickboxing or something last week, and of course, as luck would have it, saturday's class was all lunges, squats and leg work. She made us do a lot of it with extra weights added to our barbells, which amped it up A LOT. Remarkably, it felt good to loosen up that pulled muscle, and its no longer sore, but other parts are now!
On the food front, it was a shaky weekend, but it could have been worse. We have a Fat Tuesday breakfast pot luck at work today and everyone always wants me to make my famous cinnamon rolls. SO, I mixed up the dough on Sunday and then baked them yesterday. It makes like 6 pans, so its a bit time consuming, but I actually enjoy it. Its the only yeast-based item that I've never messed up. SO, naturally, I had to try one right out of the oven...quality control and all that. I logged it and moved on. Its horrendous the damage one of those puppies can do, but I figure its not often I make them, so as long as I don't eat a whole pan, I'm good. Moderation :) I also gave in and had one this morning, along with a little egg bake. I'm planning to skip lunch, snack on fruit and veggies and do salad for dinner, and then there's kickboxing tonight, so hopefully that minimizes any damage.
I ate at Qdoba for the first time yesterday. Everyone always raves about it, but come to find out its basically like a Chipotle or Pancheros. I had a naked taco salad, and it was really good. The best part is their website lets you calculate your calories based on the ingredients you put on your salad, so that was neat.
We spent all day yesterday furniture shopping, so it was a ton of walking. Our whole house basically needs refurnishing, but we were on the hunt for couches, as ours has inexplicably busted. When I say its broke, its BROKE. The whole back part like practically fell off. It was a disappointing trip...couldn't find anything we liked, but we ended up buying a dining room table and chairs. Random, but something I've been wanting for awhile now. I think the highlight of the day was playing "James Bond" in one of the stores. We had a sales guy (STEVE!) who HOVERED just out of view the entire time we were there. The second one of us would sit on a piece of furniture he'd be right there magically. It was our third store and we were getting giddy by this time, so we ran around hiding behind poles and fake walls trying to see if we could lose him. There is nothing I hate worse than high pressure sales, so this was a fun way to let loose of some frustration and laugh. I'm surprised they didn't kick us out.
Last night, I made it to Zumba Tone. It was a blast. Everyone was in a good mood and she had some new songs for us to learn, so that made it a fun atmosphere. She worked our chest and arms pretty good though, so I'm expecting to be a little sore by this afternoon.
Reading back, this is a really boring post, so sorry about that! I can feel myself coming down from a cinnamon roll high. Blech. Now I remember why I try to stay away from that crap!
Have a wonderful week Sparkies! Make it count!
