My first 5k is behind me

A new milestone...or should i say a 3.1 milestone!

This past Saturday I ran in the Blue-Gray 5k in Lake City, FL. We started at 7:00 am and I finished 34 min 20 sec later....not the fastest...but not the slowest. 5th in my age group and 53rd out of the 76 participants.

I'm very satisfied with my time, but more satisfied with actually finishing and the fact that I ran every single step...no walk breaks. Also, after seeing the posted results, I take some pride in having a slightly better time than some much younger runners!

Felt very good after the race and am considering registering for another charity 5k this coming Saturday...2 in two weeks....who am I?

I have been struggling with a loonngg plateau in weight loss...fighting the same several pounds on and off for a number of months...so I really needed the shot-in-the-arm provided by the running.

I heartily endorse the couch-to-5k approach to running. 9 weeks ago I could barely run a minute. I followed the program to the letter and was up to 30 minute practice runs the week before the event. I have never been an athletic person and I weighed 406 pounds two years ago, having now lost over 120 lbs...so breaking the 5k barrier means a lot to me.

Get out there and join me...it feels great!!
