Please help! We need some fresh ideas in naming our new puppy. emoticon

I took me 5 years to get this 8 week old puppy. I had time to think of a name...but I didn't. emoticon

I have been working on my DH to get a puppy for 5 years. It was always one excuse after another. First it was...wait till DD is 8 years old...she is now 13. Then it was...wait till DS is 8...he is now 10. Two years ago I enlisted the kids in begging for a puppy with me. A little over a year ago DH finally said yes, IF HE could pick the breed. OK dear. emoticon

You are now saying, "wow, I am glad these two people found each other, that way, they are not screwing up two other people's lives." emoticon

It took months for him to research every dog book and the internet. He decided on an Australian Terrier. Last fall he searched and found one...we went to go meet him...he was deaf. So he wasn't sure about that. It took me 2 weeks to talk him into it...we went back to adopt him...and he was gone. So the search began again. Then right after Thanksgiving last year, DH fell out of a tree, breaking his @ss and shoulder...he is still not puppy search come to a stop. In January he thought he was well enough to start the puppy search again. He finally found she is...the newest member of our family...a female Blue & Tan Australian Terrier...when she is older, she will lose some of her black...and develop a scruffy mane around her face...full grown, she will be slightly larger than our cat...

We need some help in choosing a name...2 names...a first and middle.

There are some names OFF LIMITS...former pets or other family member's pets:

Cocaine (really...Teflon Steve's white cat)
Charlie Brown
Lolita Monroe
Pepper Ann

And our current pet cat:
Theo Doorman

For the puppy my DS likes girl names:

My DD likes names:

Tazzie (Tasmania)

My DH likes Australian names:

Brizzie (Brisbane)

I like clever names:

Ms. DeMeanor
De O'Gee
Dandy Lion (when she is older, she will have a lion-like mane)

Any suggestions? We are leaning toward Sydney for a first name...but we need a middle name too. What do you think?

Wow, she looks like a miniature version of our dog (and ours was a hand-me-down from an elderly lady who was a friend of my mother-in-law and both women have since passed away, and this lady had gotten it from the pound from another couple who had to move to nursing home and couldn't care for the dog, etc). Ours is larger than out cat, but still only about 18 pounds, stands about knee high on me. Her name is Angel. But seeing as you've been to Australia and you were leaning towards Sydney, that's cute, and maybe the middle name ? does she need a middle name?? could also be something Aussie, like, IDK, maybe like "Sheila" or Queen(ie) Sydney... heh. We had a friend in Kansas who met & married a gal from Australia and her name was Nicole. But he's now married to Hilary. Which I think is a Hilarious name!!! I don't know the personality of your little pup - doubtless will change as she gets older and maybe it won't be so hilarious at first, especially the first time she chews up all your favorite clothing, furniture, etc so doubtless need to keep some chew toys around while she is growing into her adult teeth.

Oh and I hadn't seen the De O'Gee like that but we did know another "DeeOhGee" and his sibling "CeeAyyTee". haha.

what other cities are there in Australia? Dawson. Brisbane. Percy. Opal! hey that would be cute too, beautiful stone and they mine it in Australia.

Oh well, I can't even think of a new name to change my SP name to, what makes me think I can help with a dog name!!

(and we had similar pet names too - we had a cat named Diesel. another cat name Bullet, both long gone. We've had dogs named Jethro, Sharita, Princess Licorice Magnolia Jasmine - "Candy" for short... can't remember the other dogs right now.)

    Have fun!

    Your puppy is adorable!

I once had a "Taz" but it was short for "Razzamatazz".

I love De O'Gee - it took me a second to get it, but somehow that just makes it a little better. But I'm not sure how I would feel about standing the the backyard calling "De O'Gee, c'mon. Here De O'Gee"....

I always had huge dogs growing up, but we recently got our first small one - full grown and slightly smaller than the cat. I found the book "Little Dogs: Training your pint sized companion" by Deborah Wood to be useful if you were used to larger dogs before. It's not so much about small dogs being different as about people treating small dogs differently, which can sometimes lead to behavior problems big and small. If you can get it from the library I'd recommend it.

Loved the pics! She is SO cute! I don't have a name recommendation, but I do have a book recommendation. I just got this at half-price books and wish I would have had it and used it when Mia was younger...but I am using it now. "The Love That Dog Training Program" by Dawn Sylvia-Stasiewicz and Larry Kay. I think that, if DH was that apprehensive about getting a puppy, he will like it a lot more if it is well trained. I'm really working on Mia's training now...and it's a fun bonding time. Good luck with the names...can't wait to hear what you pick out! Spark on! emoticon

What a cutie. Can't wait to see what names you pick for her.
    1705 days ago
How cute is she ? How about "Roo?" It captures Australia and the her smallness. Also the Pooh charachter, Roo, is energetic and sweet. Lastly, the book, The Hunger Games, which is a phenomena, has a fiesty small girl named Roo.

Don't the Aussies call females "Sheila's"? That's a possible one! Maybe you could work it in with Tazzie or Sydney??? She's a real cutie! I hope you ALL will be happy with your newest family member!!! emoticon

What a cute puppy! When my mom got a new dog and was trying to decide on a name, I had her "audition" each name with the puppy. The name the puppy responded to best was the name she chose (cricket). Maybe you could try that!

    1705 days ago
de o'gee. thats CLEVER. I might have to steal that when we get a puppy
    1705 days ago

Well I don't want to point out the obvious here, but is your hunny bunches of oats, the one with the broken a$$ a wee bit controlling? Just sayin

I am happy for you and the kids, sad that you all had to wait this long, but very cute little puppy. I too like the name Sydney, there are a million dogs (worked as a vet tech for years) with the name Dee-Oh-Gee, and I also like the name Dandy Lion really the best as most inventive, and out of the ordinary.

Keep the puppy pics coming, we/I will be excited to see how she changes as she grows.

You my friend may be the most patient wife in the history of getting married and living with another person of the opposite sex. You deserve a medal.

Could not find a medal, hope a trophy will do.

I like Sydney out of the names you picked. I also like dandi lion. The dog is adorable! You could always name her Sydney Kay (Kay short for kangaroo).
    1706 days ago
lots of great suggestions, kinda looks like a pepper to me.
    1706 days ago
We just went through naming our puppy, which was also 5 years in the wife and I divorced and remarried first!

His name is Max, but I secretly call him Maxwell!

Here are names that we didn't chose. Although I liked some better. Buddy, Bullet, Chase, Baxter, Butler, Sammy....
    1706 days ago
In sticking with the Aussie names how about Sheila (as in female kangaroo) and middle name Roo (as in see previous info )

    Just a thought.

She is a cutie though, whatever you name her.

Let us know what you end up naming her.

She's adorable! I'm surely no help, my cat's name is Fred. I prefer human names not typically found on pets :)

    Hi Trish

    How about Sydney Ella

    1706 days ago
Sydney fits. What a cutie! Good luck!
    1706 days ago

    Gender: Female>Origin: Australian
The Australian name Kylie means - curled stick; boomerang

    1706 days ago
I like Ozzie....he just looks like an Ozzie : )
    1706 days ago
She is so cute! I like Sydney for sure, how about a compromise? Since some of you like Sydney, then the others of you should be able to pick the "middle" name! emoticon
    1706 days ago
    She is very cute!
I like your dd's idea of Cinnamon.
    ...How about Cinnamon Spice.
    1706 days ago
I like Ponce de Leon, (play on words for a playful pouncing lion) but Sydney de Leon would work just as well. Naming pets is SO much fun! Enjoy those baby days, they disappear all to fast.
    1706 days ago
I like Cinnamon. How about Cinnamon Sugar? Also like Dandy Lion.

    1706 days ago
If she was a boy, I would say Scottie! Something like Rosie would be good.
