Top 5 Reasons I LOVE Exercise

When I started my Spark journey 412 days ago, my fitness level was nearly nonexistent. But I was committed to adding regular exercise to my new-and-improved lifestyle.

I began with just 10 minutes of marching in place while watching the morning news. More recently, I finished my first half marathon. Of course, there were several gradual changes in between.

Throughout my evolution, I went from dreading exercise to absolutely loving it! And here are my TOP 5 REASONS I LOVE EXERCISE!



#5 CHALLENGE - I love a challenge, and exercise is a way to continually challenge myself to grow and improve. My new passion is running, and each time I run I strive to run faster, run longer, or run farther. Achieving a new personal best feels incredibly rewarding.

#4 REFLECTION - During exercise is one brief period in my day where I am not being pulled in a million different directions at once. Exercise is my true "ME" time--a time to relax and reflect, and to just get lost in my own thoughts while listening to my tunes.

#3 DE-STRESS - Nothing relieves my stress more than exercise. Running, in particular, really relaxes me. Something about the rhythm of my feet hitting the pavement or the treadmill is quite therapeutic. My stress literally melts away as I work up a good sweat.

#2 MORE CALORIES - The more calories I burn, the more calories I can eat. Now that is a nice perk.

#1 MOOD - The number one reason I love exercise is because it just makes me happy. Exercise elevates my mood. I am more congenial and have more patience after working out, too. Those little endorphins are real mood enhancers, and I love 'em!

    Hahaha, I love this blog! I can definitely relate to #4. Sometimes I do a double workout just so I can eat more at dinner (shhh, don't tell on me)). The de-stress factor is true for me, too. What I love most about exercise is that it is totally and completely me-time. I don't have to talk to anyone, I don't have to look nice for anyone, I don't have to spend energy on anyone else but myself. I get one hour a day where I get to be totally selfish. And it feels gooooood!

    Thanks for giving me reasons to exercise. Sometimes it's just hard and tiring in the beginning, so knowing where I can be if I just stick it out is a nice motivation!

    I also used to absolutely dread exercising. Now, if I don't get to the gym first thing before work, I feel like I've let myself down. I MISS IT, and for all the reasons you've listed here.

    I agree with all of these but ESPECIALLY #2. I love running and Zumba because of how many calories they burn so I am allowed to eat more calories! Yummy! :)

    I agree with all of this!!! If i miss a day I get kind of grumpy and feel "off" - I think I'm addicted to endorphins! I love all kinds of exercise. Running, Zumba, Lifting, Pilates, Yoga, playing with my kids, hiking, plyometrics - anything!

    I am a gym rat girl. I LOVE group classes, especially Kickboxing, but I also love Circuit Training where I combine ST w/cardio. Lately I have been running a bit (just did my first 5k) but I don't love it yet.

    Right now I love walking because I love the cool/cold weather. I started 7 weeks ago walking about .7 of a mile and am now up to 1.7. What is great is that I know I could do more but am sticking to the gradual increase of distance plan until I get up to 3 miles/day.

I will have to change strategy when the weather starts hitting the 80 -100 because I think that is HOT! But for now I walk ..walk... walk and throw in a couple Leslie Sansone videos or Richard Simmons (cause I think his are more fun).

Thinking of joining a pool this summer since when I was young I loved to swim and maybe could do some laps.
