His Smile Says It All

My current trainer - he goes by Flash - is an MMA fighter. I train with him 3 days a week - Day 1 is Core and Upper body (Chest Back Shoulders). Day 2 is Core and Lower Body (Legs, Glutes and Biceps & Triceps). Day 3 is Core, Cardio and BOXING !

Now boxing with an MMA fighter is quite the adventure. He shows me proper form over and over again (poor guy) but I have so many years of cardio Kickboxing muscle memory that I often have trouble doing the moves properly.

Every once in a while I catch a couple of different looks on his face that clue me in. You see, Flash doesn't say much, it's just his way, he's very quiet and soft spoken. Quite a contrast to his mohawk hair cut and the dozen tattoos that cover his body. Just more evidence that you can't judge a book by it's cover.

So, the small quirky smile means "oh no another bad habit I have to break" The small genuine smile means "oh yeah another bad habit broken" No smile means "do NOT stop - do not ever stop - I don't care if you're breathless and bruised - keep on going until that bell rings"

Currently I can chest press on a stability ball 2 - 30lb dumb bells - 10 reps 3 sets
I can Plank with elbows on a stability ball and toes at the very top of of BOSU for 3 sets of 1 minute each. I can squat to parallel with a 100 lb barbell on my back - 3 sets of 10 reps. I can step up to balance on a 30" box with a balance pillow on it and bicep curl a 15 # DB at the same time (12 on each leg - 3 sets) If you've never worked with a balance pillow before, I can tell you they are very challenging on a floor let alone atop a step up box!

Yes boxing with Flash can be quite the adventure. Thank goodness my sessions only consist of me hitting him holding targets and not him hitting back at all.

    OMG...I'm dying just reading this, imagine me ever doing this (although a crazy part of me want to do this someday) !! lol You're a tough cookie! And Flash is super cute in his ways. I once told him he was gonna kill someone during class..and he smiled sweetly and said "nah" lol Good luck with your training, I'll live through you for now. emoticon
