1st day back at the gym!

Friday, February 17, 2012

I set the alarm clock for 5:30am…

So I could go to the gym!! emoticon

The boyfriend was shipping something today and had to be here when the UPS driver arrived but he didn’t want me to go to the gym alone, so we actually set the alarm on a day that we didn’t have to work so we could go to the gym!

Crazy, right?

My objectives for the workout were:

#1 – Don’t pass out
#2 – Get my heart rate into the high 190s/low 200s so they can really see what happens when my heart rate gets that high

I met both… although #1 was a little iffy.

I started on my usual level 5 on the elliptical… and immediately I could tell it had been a while since I’d visited my old friend.

The heart rate monitor on the elliptical was being weird… it was leaving the first digit off when my hands were on the handles, but then it would show it after I’d let go. I’m guessing that the holter monitor was causing some interference so I’m not entirely sure how accurate it was.

About 15 minutes into my workout I bumped it up to level 6… and shortly after that I was in the 190s… then in the 200s.

After a couple of minutes there I bumped it back down to level 5 to get my heart rate to slow a bit… and I started to feel a bit funny a minute or two later.

It is entirely possible that I was just weirding myself out since this was the first trip back to the gym since the pass out episode.

I actually think there were a few things in play:

*I was nervous about passing out again.

*There were a lot of people around.

*It was humid as heck in there, shocker!

*They rearranged the cardio machines so the elliptical was directly under a ceiling fan… which normally would be awesome since I overheat so easily… but when I’m about to pass out a cool, tingly kind of feeling washes over me and the fan kind of gave me the same sensation.

At around 25 minutes I was feeling a bit weird… it was probably all of the above combined, but to be safe I got off of the elliptical and laid down on the floor until my heart was no longer banging out of my chest.

I honestly think it was just a precautionary thing and that I wouldn’t have really passed out… but I figured better safe than sorry.

How’s that for trying this "take care of myself" stuff?

I probably looked really silly getting off of the elliptical and laying down on the floor… oh well! That sure beats the heck out of convulsing! LOL

After I rested for a few minutes… I did a bit of strength training before it was time to come home to wait for the UPS driver.

I’m thinking that the new plan for my workouts might be to go to the gym for strength training and then come home to run on the treadmill for cardio. I think it’s just entirely too humid in there for me to do cardio. I can’t wait until it’s time to turn the AC back on to kill the humidity!!!

I wish I had been able to wear my HRM so I could tell how many calories I burned… I’m kind of addicted to that now!

I’m SO ready to get this holter monitor off! A couple of the little electrode things are HURTING… I think it’s from that lady scrubbing me down with sandpaper and swabbing me with alcohol before applying them, but it feels like someone is jabbing me with a needle in a couple of different spots. Not fun! Come on 2pm!!

I think we are going to the gun range tonight and then dinner with a friend… that should be fun!

Hope you all have a great weekend!

'turning on the A/C to kill this humidity"
I so live in the wrong country.
    Possibly planet.
emoticon Sheesh, I'm so green with jealousy...

I hope you got to go the gun range and dinner out tonight.

You know for that "taking care of yourself stuff' and flattening yourself before toying with a convulsion, ya, I be thinking you did *F*A*N*F*R*E*A*K*I*N*G*T*A*S*T*I*C*

Know how strange it is to walk around with this holter device. I felt like a 90 years old when I did this test. Any results yet?

Sounds like it was a bit of an interesting gym trip. Sorry you were not feeling well and you are having to wear an annoying monitor. Good you're getting it off soon. Take care of yourself, as you are obviously doing, and I am thinking of you!

Oh girl! I think you're right about doing cardio at home. The heat and humidity may definitely be playing a huge part in the problem. Hope you get things figured out soon! :)

The monitor doesn't sound fun to wear at all, much less have to exercise in! I'm glad you got to exercise again and hope that you can get things figured out so you don't have to worry so much soon. I WISH I could get my heartrate up to the 190's - my body doesn't deal with that at all, and even in the 140's I sweat like crazy, even though it's about 70 or less in the exercise room.
