Healthy Food Decisions

Thursday, February 16, 2012

I often wondered why healthy food costs more than processed food. It seems to me it takes more to make processed food than a healthy food. Processed food normally has more salt and sugar and less vitamins and nutrients. They are also made to last longer. So again why so much for healthy food and not processed food?

Then I need to tell myself while grocery shopping and staying within budget that healthy food will keep me healthy with fewer trips to the doctors. That there are not the chemical additives in healthy foods. That healthy food is more nutrient rich for my family. That fresh food tastes better and my body feels fuller after eating fresh food. They say that when you eat process food your body doesn’t feel full and thus a person eats more so just maybe it does cost more to get processed considering you might have more helpings.

Whatever the answer, my wish is that the price of healthy food would decrease but I know that isn’t going to happen anytime soon. So…I need to remember all the benefits healthy food brings to my family and myself.

Isn't it weird? Makes no sense. The cafe at work is the WORST. It's like $3.50 for two slices of greasy pizza and $5+ for a tiny salad they sell by weight. And yet they subsidize the sodas in the vending machine so we can have $.50 sodas. WTF?
