To Gym or Not To Gym? That Is The Question!
Tuesday, February 14, 2012
Over the last few years at different times in my quest to lose weight I had enrolled in about four different gyms. Need less to say I did not get the results that I hoped for.
When I was introduced to this site I realised that the method used here made a lot of sense and I knew it was something I could work with for the rest of my life. I have subsequently lost a significant amount of weight and I have come to realise that no matter how much I have tried to explain to my peers and others this realistic approach to weight loss for some reason it is not embraced.
Today I met a lady who I knew through a gym that I used to attend. It was not our first meeting where she congratulated me on my loss but today because of my attire she was drawn to the size of my waistline. Her mouth dropped open and she enquired of my present work out place. I told her that I don't belong to a gym I simply walk and try to control my portions of food. I don't think that she believed me, she congratulated me, shook her head and walked off. It's sad to see the things that some of my co-workers do to look slim and lose weight. I've introduced them to this site, I've done just about everything to encourage them all to no avail
I've simply decided to let them go figure it out on their own and hopefully they will eventually come to their senses.
Let me know guys have any of you had good success with your gym?

Firstly I must say that I have found that no matter how many compliments someone pays you and how they "envy" your success and want some of it for themselves they will not follow any advice you give them until they are ready to change. whether that means changin their mindset, changing their desire to self sabotage or changing the way they have been taught to believe weightloss and health work.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE my workouts passionately... i do not belong to a gym, i am a member of a lifestyle company that offers personal training, outdoor bootcamp group training, a cycling club and a running club. We train using our bodies - i guess very similar to the crossfit style of training. I can truely say that without them I would not have had the success that I have. I am fitter, stronger, leaner, faster and most of all happier... My goals include building muscle and reshaping my body and not just weight loss per say which I cannot achieve without "gymming" so not the right word but you get the idea ;)

I do not exercise. I am trying to totally do this by portion management.
What you are so right about is this must be individual. What works for you may not work for me and vice versa. It is knowing the body that the Lord has created for us and maybe the quirks that go with it.

I loved my gym...not currently a member due to financial restrictions. But it was really SP that made the difference...and continues to make the difference. Keep doing what you're doing and being a light. Some will follow you, some will not, but you can bet that your good influence is out there! Hope you are having a great week! Keep up the good work! Thanks for the encouragement! Spark on!

I've been a member of my gym for 9 years now. I love it because it gives me a chance to zone out, listen to my favorite music, and even read a magazine while working out (depending on what I'm doing, of course! I highly recommend it, but it's definitely not for everyone; some find it boring. Keep us posted on what works for you!

I also have had a similar experience with a gf that I care about and he has lots of weight to lose. When I tell her about Sp she doesn't seem interested in all in fact acts like it's something weird. . .crazy, isn't it. All we can do is try to Spread the Spark but unfortunately some people just want to take the easy way out or forget about their weight gain. You look wonderful and must feel good too. Continue to be Healthy and Happy. Thank you for always being there for me.

First off I feel your pain in battling to get converts. I too have tried to introduce a bunch of people to the site. Including my mother! They take a peek then follow through. Even tried to get my office to adopt it instead of spending money on Weight Watchers. No go!
As to the gym...I love mine! I have a job that allows me to be a little flexible wit my hours so I go at 10am. It's even scheduled on my calendar so thta when people try to set appointments with me they will see that I'm busy then. Those couple hours away (including changing, showering, and walking to and from time) are the sanity of my day! I get on the bike or the treadmill and plug in my tunes and just go on auto pilot. All the stresses leave and there is just me and the machine! Hope this helps!
