SparkPeople Newsletters Get an Upgrade This Wednesday!

Last week we announced the addition of "SparkPeople Funnies" with a hint that more changes to the site would be coming soon. Today, I am very happy to announce that on Wednesday, Feb. 15, we'll be unveiling some upgrades to SparkPeople's newsletters! These changes affect our daily newsletter, which many of you subscribe to. In an effort to optimize the newsletters we send out and reduce the amount of email members receive, here's a rundown of what's coming:

Newsletters That Will Be Discontinued
Beginning Wednesday, we will discontinue the following daily newsletters.

  • Food Showdown. Instead of sending it in a daily email, we're giving Food Showdown a new home on dailySpark.com each weekend, and we'll also feature the Food Showdown in The Weekly Spark (subscribe here).

  • Family Health and Wellness. You can continue to find great family and kids content on dailySpark.com (subscribe to the dailySpark digest here) and in our Healthy Kids and Families Lifestyle Center.

  • Healthy Reflections (Quote of the Day). But don't worry. While this will no longer be a stand-alone newsletter, the Quote of the Day will be incorporated into our Best of SparkPeople daily newsletter (subscribe here).


Newsletters Getting a Facelift
  • Best of SparkPeople (daily). We're expanding this newsletter to include a daily feature, a Motivational Quote of the Day, SparkPeople Funnies, and top blog posts from dailySpark.com bloggers and members!

  • Recipe of the Day. This title has been totally redesigned to feature our best recipes and Chef Meg's cooking videos along with cooking tips and food blogs.

  • Exercise of the Day. We're redesigned our fitness email to feature exercises and Coach Nicole's workout videos, plus member fitness tips, a daily workout song to get you moving and more!


Remember that you can still earn SparkPoints for reading email newsletters—and the stories within them. It's a great way to keep your goals in mind each day and get more insightful tips for your health journey. To edit your email subscription settings any time, go to your Start page (under the My Trackers tab) and then click on Account/Email Preferences near the top left of the page.

We can't wait to hear what you think about our new, revamped email newsletters that start this Wednesday!

    I really do miss getting the old newsletters in the old form where i would get like 10 or so in my inbox daily.....now i just get 3 all condenced and i dont care for that at all. I find i am less likely to click on anything to open it up to read so just getting those 3 points for clicking on the get sparks points will never get any of us to the 10 allowed points daily. I also do not like all the facebook connections that show up on everything on Sparks. I do not and never will belong to facebook as i dont trust their privacy settings so all the facebook stuff is a bit annoying here on Sparks.

    I stopped getting e-mails all together and I miss them, what happened?? I used to get 6 a day and then it was down to three and now I get none.

    All this seems fine. However I agree with CANDOK in that I like to know who is liking my statuses - why can we no longer know?

Also I am having trouble recently trying to open Best of sparkpeople emails - I get a message saying the email is corrupted and then it closes me out of my emails. It doesn't seem to affect any others.

Another problem is that none of the recipe emails save to favourites so I have given up with them.

    The revised formats are quite well done. However, I really miss the Food Showdown email. It was both fun and informative. Could you please add a link to it in one of the current newsletters?

    still don't like the new emails and don't even come on Spark 1/2 the time due to it. I know change is inevitable but this was too much at one time.

  The emails don't display correctly on my screen - I end up have to scroll around, which is not acceptable to me.

It also bugs me that I am able to get up to 10 points each day for reading emails, but can't get anywhere near 10 points. Plus, the old emails I hadn't clicked through no longer give me emails - that's not right!

    I, too would prefer to have the ingredients with the recipes in one email. I love that the fitness newsletter shows the motions for the exercise and the inspirational quotes, tips, songs, funnies on the fitness newsletter.

    Agree with comments on a couple of things:
1. I miss the separate Food Showdowns.
2. Also miss getting the full recipe in the email. I'd rather see the whole thing than have to spend more time to look it up.
3. Likewise, fewer points for emails.

  I love the new, cleaner look of the emails, but really miss having the ingredients listed in the body of the email. It's frustrating on a slow connection to have to load the webpage only to find out that the recipe includes something I can't eat.

    I am not too sure about the new format. I really miss the article of the day. I find I have to search around a lot on the site to find an article to read. Not real happy with the upgrade, but still love SP!

  I really miss the old format. You have to log in repeatedly, the articles I used to love are no longer delivered and I'm not sure I'm finding all that I should be seeing. Sometimes change isn't a good thing. emoticon I agree with Ceehjay -- it's been a couple of weeks and I really miss the header for "my Trackers". It's a royal pain trying to find things. I've yet to find my Healthy Reflections. Can we get a manual so we'll know where to find things?

  I really, really miss the Healthy Reflections Daily Message. My Bible and reading the Healthy Reflections message every morning were the best parts of my day.

    The newsletters used to list the author of the blogs not just the title. Such as: a blog written by Indygirl I would click on regardless of the title because I like to read her blogs. Just the title is not enough info. can you please list the author again?

    A recipe newsletter that doesn't include the recipe is useless. Why would this be considered an improvement? I'm not going to click through to the site every day just to see if I am interested in the recipe, so I guess I'll just unsub. emoticon

    Day three, and I dislike this more every day. No, I'm not clicking through to see whether or not I want to try this recipe. I am not clicking through to see the essay on the quote (this was my favorite). I am not clicking through to the three or four possibilities in each email.

I'm not sure why I dislike this so, but it seems that a simple process has become more complicated with this change.

    Healthy Reflections should remain stand-alone. Sometimes it is all I read if I am rushing through, and I won't enjoy having to go look for it. Not your best move for me, SP! I can't see why you consolidated -- I say don't fix it if it ain't broke. lol.

    Healthy Reflections was the first one I opened every day. I will greatly miss that one, and am sorry that it will be buried in the site, as well as requiring an extra click. No SparkPoints for reading it, either. Boo.

    Not to sure about this. I find lots of different things in each of the individual emails and having them conglomerated will be alot more confusing and my brain already had a hard enough time staying on track.

    I find the new formats too confusing and am considering cancelling my newsletters.

I liked that I could see the recipe in my email. I also liked that I could read part of an article before clicking on it. Now I don't know what to click to read what I want or if I will end up somewhere else.
