Firecracker 10K (with pics)

Sunday, February 12, 2012

I had a great time jog/walking the Firecracker 10k from Chinatown in Los Angeles through Elysian Park and Dodger Stadium today. It was lovely weather, in the mid 50's, cloudy & cool. The elevation to the park we ran through was 800 feet and my bottom is feeling those hills this afternoon. There were beautiful views of downtown Los Angeles and Dodger Stadium.......

The race celebrated the year of the dragon with paper dragons and 100,000 firecrackers!

Paper dragons being carried through the crowds.

My hubby, Fred, me and one of our best friends, Richard
It was Richard's first 5k and my hubby's second. I think they had a great time!

A view of downtown LA......you can see runners on the street.

A view of Los Angeles and Dodger Staduim.

Running through the parking lot at Dodger Stadium!

Taiko (I think) drummers helping us to set the pace.......I think they played for at least three hours. They were there when the 5k runners set out at 8AM and were still there when I came in at almost 10:30. I'll bet they worked as hard as we did!

All in all it was a great way to start the week!

Good for you, Kudos. I just started this two weeks ago. I don't know if I lost any weight yet. I just trying to feel better about myself and getting healthy. Doing what I am suppose to do, the right way. Did you train first before your 5K? Can you give me advice on how to start one? I have osteoarthritis everywhere in my body lately, all I can do is walk. I sure would like to do a marathon of some kind one day. I am at least 40lbs overweight on a small 5'0" frame.

    Thank you,

Terry, wow I'm impressed! You look great! It must have been a great event with the drummers and the runners. My DH would have loved being one of the drummers. That's his thing.

Thanks for sharing. Pictures are beautiful.

Terry, how wonderful!! My hubby is going to run the New York Marathon with me this year. He thinks he can pull out one marathon on his bum knee. He will train differently than me, but we will do a 10K together this year and maybe another race. SO FUN to have him coming along! And so it is great to see you with hubby and friend!! You look amazing, fit, wonderful, happy!!

    Thanks for sharing!

Very nice pictures Terry! I know the area well so I am very familiar with the hilly nature of the area. Definitely impressed with your running/walking this hilly route! It looks like you had fun and got in a great workout! Congratulations!
