My Hoop!

Saturday, February 11, 2012

Did you know that hooping is really great cardio and really popular right now? I only recently became aware of that! Hey can one of you who does hooping (MostMom?) please comment what are the average calories burned per 10 mins of hooping, please?

I used to use a hula hoop when I was a kid and I loved it so much, that I imagine I'll enjoy it again. But you don't get a crummy one from a dollar store or toy store or dept. store!! You get a real one made by someone who DOES this sort of thing professionally so that it is a good quality, the right size and weight for your body, not molded plastic.

I got mine from Spellbound Hoops on etsy because I fell in love with this one and it was a good price. Most of the ones I found are $30-50 plus $10 shipping. This was $20 plus $8 shipping. I got Sport weight - 160 psi and 42", but she said she'd add a few inches more for me when I told her my dimensions. Then I ordered a kid's one ($15) - Zippy weight 115 psi and 30" wide with matching design for Nicholas's birthday which is coming in 11 days! Oh, and they are having a 15% off sale through Feb. I had not seen that discount promo code (homepage of her etsy) before I paid, but Michala gave me a refund for the discount, which is truly amazing customer service!!

I'll have it in a few days. They are custom made. This one is the Chakra hoop because the colors change as you go around it and match chakra colors. Most hoops have one solid background with a variety of tapes on top, so this was very different.

In 30 mins of hooping , you can burn up to 400 calories . You can squat , walk, do the chacha, go on circles, do the electric slide , I even punch my hand up in the air ( like u just donT care ;-) lol .... I love hooping ! It also is great for back muscles , I used to have low back pain & HOOPING cured the pain !!!!

I looked through her hoops after you emailed me. They're beautiful! She has some great designs and those prices are amazing. You're gonna love it. I think the calorie burn depends on how hard you're hooping and what you're doing. I'd like to wear a monitor to class sometime, to see. Right now, I just use whatever's in the Spark fitness tracker. Hooping's in there.

Ooh, let me know how you like it! I got a weighted hoop at Walmart and it sits in the corner of my living room. lol I've tried it a bit, but can't figure out how to move to keep the hoop up. :P I'll keep trying though. Maybe once I figure out how to keep it up, I'll check out the website and get a good one. :D

My heart rate monitor says I burn about 125 cal. per 10 mins. It also depends on what I'm doing (halos, switches, hip/waist/chest/thigh hooping, etc.). Every half hour, I burn about 400 cal. I love hooping! I'm excited that you are getting into it! It's so much fun! Enjoy!

P.s.- Thanks for sharing the website where you got yours! I'll have to take a look. You can never have too many hoops!! emoticon emoticon emoticon
