Relationships! A word for Thought

Saturday, February 11, 2012

emoticonI’m so pleased to see teams and individual 5% challenge members continuing to make February all it can be. I needed this brief break between challenges to concentrate on my own emotional and spiritual health. I'm thankful for the NSV''s I've had in the last couple of challenges, and I'm really looking forward to the next challenge.

Although I’ve been busy with personal issues I continue to ponder words that correspond to my journey at this time. Some things are still too personal to share.

In late September I was diagnosed with anxiety, depression and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Contemplation of and blogging about some of the word topics that come up in therapy has given me insight and become an essential part of my progress. The comments and support of my Spark Friends confirm the direction I’m heading is the best possible path.

Last week my thoughts turned to relationships, current and past, and with that came a precious memory of teaching my 3 year old son about different family relationships. The conversation went like this.

Me: Who’s your Mommy?

Eric: (giggling) You

Me: (giggling too) What’s my name?

Eric: Mommy!

Me: Who’s your Daddy?

Eric: Daddy!

Me: Who’s your sister?

Eric: Dawny!

Me: Who’s your Brother?

Eric: Freddy!

Me: What’s that make us?

HAPPY!!! Eric shouted with a huge grin. emoticon

Of course I was expecting him to say family but his answer held conviction. The relationship he shared with each family member made him happy. He had his answer and he knew he was correct. He didn’t need to intellectually understand the meaning of family. He felt it in his heart!

The question that prompted this memory? How does that relationship make you feel?

oops sorry, I missed the last line when I did the c/p. Eric is approaching 32 and has a wonderful wife and two precious daughters that bring us much happiness!

I had a great family too! That is a great memory to cherish. I grew up in a happy family and it very well may have been the best time in my life. As a teenager I became discontented and wanted to leave home, which I did at age 18.

I guess you have to experience something different sometimes to appreciate what you had. There truly wasn't any place like home.

What a treasured moment this had to be. Glad you shared it with us. I have many of those of my almost 30-year old, who is also a father to a 2-year old and he and his wife are expecting #2. He shares many of his "moments" with his daughter with us. Precious!

Hope you will find some improvement soon.

Thanks for sharing this special memory!!! I think family makes me happy to0 and out of the heart of a 3 year old comes this special treasure and memory for you and me too 20 + years later!! It is amazing how we don't forget the special things our children teach us along the way... I was feeling frustrated this week that I am limited by my health and autoimmune issues and my 18 year old dd looked at me and said...I am so thankful theat God has had you home with me supporting me during my teen years...if you were well and and able to work outside of the home I would miss you!! God has us just where He wants us to be and is working in our lives through each life issue to make us what He wants us to be!!! Hugs Barb

I smiled as I read about your beautiful memory.

I am glad that you are getting help for your depression, anxiety, and PTSD. So many people do not.
