Feb. 9, 2012...My journey so far...

I had no idea when I was blindly "googleing" that I would stumble upon what I have been needing for sooooo long. I found this wonderful site with tons of information, inspiration, motivation, and exactly what I had been searching for.
I am 40 days into my "New Year...New Me" journey! I have never stuck with any weight-loss plan this long. The difference is, I'm not "dieting". I'm actually making lifestyle changes. Everytime I think about making a change, I step back and think if this is a "quick fix" or is this something I can do for the rest of my life.
I have discovered all those veggies that I thought were "nasty"...are really good. Still working on some of them, but I have greatly increased my intake of fruits and veggies. I have also found that by eating more veggies and fruits, I can decrease my intake of other not so good for me foods like bread and sweets. I have made it a point to try and find atleast one new fruit or veg to try everytime I go to the grocery store. Even my "I only eat potatoes" kid has jumped on the veggie wagon. It's amazing to see the transformation, not only in me, but in my whole family.
I have also rediscovered my love of walking. Prior to kids, I walked atleast 3 miles a day. After kids, I let taking care of everyone else get in the way of taking care of me. But, now I'm getting up 30 minutes before everyone else and enjoy quiet time on the treadmill.
Yesterday, I had an "Aha" moment. Last month I got up almost every morning and walked. The last couple of weeks, I have been slacking off on my walking. Not real sure why...well I do know why...I still like that extra 30 mins of sleep. But I sat and thought about the days that I didn't walk and I was more cranky, tired, and did not handle job stress as well as I do when I get up and walk. As a nurse, I know it's the endorphins...but I like to think it's because I get up and do something for myself first, then I can handle doing for everyone else the rest of the day.
So here's to drinking water, eating veggies, and WALKING!!!
Enjoy the journey!!
