Promise to YOUrself!

The most important promises are the ones you make to yourself. Pay Attention. Appreciate. Listen. Imagine. ~ Mary Anne Radmacher

What promises or commitments have you made to yourself lately? Being members of this community - one sure thing is that we have committed to making changes to our lives to become healthier. But we must be more specific don't we?!

To keep those promises alive, we must work at them each and every day - with every choice we make.

The promise I made myself this month was to practice 'self-love' and that is a huge commitment because it encompasses so much. Self-love means caring for YOUrself! As I walked in the stores yesterday and saw all the Valentine's gifts - I reflected on the gifts that I can give myself. As I love myself, I nourish my body with healthy food, I provide myself with activity to stay strong and healthy and I incorporate meditation and positive affirmations into my daily ritual to nourish my spirit, my soul.

I always try to keep things in balance - mind/body/spirit. I also recognize that I am human and that it's important to allow some indulgences as I make this a lifestyle change... so I allow myself a treat (be it an outing, a special meal, drinks in moderation, some pampering) once a week. As I practice self-love, I remember to reward myself for my efforts and I also remember to be gentle with myself when I do not always act in a self-loving way. (e.g. don't beat yourself up if you had a slip or made a bad choice)

The important thing in all of this is that YOU are accountable to YOUrself. Whether you are single, or if you have a partner, a family to care for. If you are not healthy and happy, then others suffer too.

Too often we let go of promises we make to ourselves, to sacrifice or give something up for others ... and while it's something that can't be helped at times, it's important to reclaim the balance and nurture yourself after you've done the job of helping others.

So today, when you set out to your daily routine whatever it might entail, make sure that you keep your promise to YOUrself! Be the love that you wish to have in your world, because if you have LOVE, then you have all you need!
