This time I think I held a plank position for at least a minute, maybe longer. At least it felt like it. And for someone trying to build up my core, enough to do the signature roundhouse kick, this is necessary suffering. By the end of it, I can see sweat dripping onto my pink Everlast gloves and barely notice the sewn in message, "Greatness Is Within." And I definitely don't notice, "EverCool." I mostly notice that my abs are really hurting, even though I am doing knee pushups and knee planks, while my classmates do the the real deal.
And instead of just doing front kicks to substitute for roundhouse kicks, I am now doing a certain knee up move to build needed muscles and strength, something I learned from the lead instructor who was the sub for Friday's class. This one is more fun.
Even though I am trying not to dread or worry about the dental surgery tomorrow, it involves stitches, an hour-long procedure, and not as much fun. On the other hand, I am in very good hands, this will save my tooth, and it will eliminate an infection underneath a root canal that is doing more harm than good while also messing with gluclose levels. And I will be so relieved to get it done.
The kickboxing workout is intense enough, with its new music and a few new moves, to get my mind off that and another matter that has me a little worried. For a solid hour, I push myself as hard as I dare, getting into the spirit of hitting that anchored punching bag hard enough to see it move, and finally getting a higher front kick the second time around. Much higher, and much more what I was striving for. And like everyone else, I am gasping at the end. Holding the plank that long as an encore was definitely quite the finale.
I even found out that I need to work on my squats, even though I thought I had those down perfect by now. Just in case, I'll keep working at it.
For two days, I have been running around getting a lot done before dental surgery tomorrow afternoon. I still have quite a lot on my to-do list, but I've gotten the haircut, gotten some threading done, bought valentines and red roses, bought 2 extra Trader Joe's organic chocolate SOY milk in case I can't chew food for a few days and am not smoothie ready yet, and picked up "The Paris Wife" to re-read in case I am out of commission for a day or two.
And I even figured out how to cut the roses underwater to make them last longer, a florist trick of the trade, and arranged them into two vases, very satisfying and uplifting, as I prepare to get the rest of my to-do list completed.
Kickboxing was actually one of the most important items on my to-do list today, and I feel so much better after an intense but euphoric workout. (And now I can get the computer related work done, too.)
Addendum: I swam laps for 100 minutes on Sunday, surprised that I could make it that long in hard breast stroke laps when I haven't swum in awhile.
