Day 8

Tuesday, February 07, 2012

Day 8 of the 10 day juice fast and the water bottle is my best friend. I used to drink a lot of water, but I always added a diet powder flavoring. Thus, flooding my body with chemical sweeteners & other manufactured toxins at the pace of 120 oz. a day. Just water & organic homemade juice for the last 8 days. I am still hungry, but I drink my water and juice. Since I am so close to day 10, I wonder if I will keep it up and try for a longer fast. The guy in the video, Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead, fasted for 60 days on just juice nd water. I don't think I'll go that long, cause I love to eat. I miss the full feeling from having food in my stomach. My son says its because we have a satiation center in our brains linked to our stomach to notify us when we are full, so we don't overeat into oblivion.

I feel better, more energy, waking up earlier. The only exercise I am getting is running to the bathroom every 20 minutes.

Not going to weigh back in until the morning of the 10th day.

Experimenting with different veggies in my juice, so I am not following the program's plan to the letter. I am just juicing organic fruits and veggies: spinach, kale, radish & the greens, beets & the greens, carrots & the greens, cucumbers, celery, chard, ginger, garlic, turnips, oranges, apples (variety), lemons, pineapple, grapes, & blueberry. Whatever is in season, and mostly organic. Most of my juice has been all of the above, but I learned quickly garlic should not be in a juice. Beginning to cut back on the radish, they add a peppery tone. But still doesn't taste bad.

Since I am putting in so many fruit & veggies, I haven't weighed out each portion, cause when you're juicing you just chop and add by eyeball. Makes this difficult to log it in my nutrition tracker, but I am definitely getting more than my quota of fruits, veggies, and water. As far as how many calories I'm taking in, can't tell you. I typically drink 3-4 12 oz. glasses a day of the above listed ingredients, minus the garlic. Plus another 100+ oz. of just plain water.

I haven't had the elimination, to put it delicately, that is expected in a juice fast of this length. The last meal I ate was at a claim jumpers on Feb 2nd, the tri tip, mashed potatoes, grilled veggies, and french onion soup. Not much of it has passed through my system. Hmm. Sorry, but I am being honest on what this is doing to me.

The headaches I had the first 3 days are gone. The blah listless feeling from day 3-6 is gone, and I am waking up early everyday. Whereas, I was getting 12-16 hours sleep a day. Remember I just went through two major surgeries in the last 3 months and haven't even begun my physical therapy/rehab yet. I have energy. I feel emotionally better too. I can FEEL it making a difference in my body, knowing I'm only putting in vitamin packed whole raw fruits and veggies all day, cleansing/detoxing my system.

I feel great. I occasionally crave meat. I mainly crave snack food. I used to crave chocolate, but right now it doesn't even appeal to me. I am a Chocoholic, so that is a real big deal with me. I am also a boredom eater. Not much I can do right now while healing. So boredom city here I come. This is also why I am online more than before. I have time!

I have started reading again, beading is still too painful, can't sit and bead. Whereas, I can fluff my pillows and leg lifts, and have my water, music, book in bed with my cat and 1 dog on the bed with me, and the other dog taking guard laying by the bedroom door, and read. Beading you have to sit at a table and chair, have everything spread out and it hurts after a while. Though I have had some designs in my head I should put down on paper before I forget them. I'll be beading soon enough. I can knit, but I haven't in quite a while. Might start it up again.

Check out fatsickandnearlydead.com and you'll learn more about why I felt this program was good for me. It may be the type of plan you can do, and it does work.
Good luck and keep me posted if you do try it.

Very interesting! When I read your previous blog, I was concerned about nutrition, but it looks like you have it under control. I'm not sure I could do this for 10 days, but I am seriously considering trying it for a day or two to try to jumpstart some weight loss. Very little exercise lately has seriously hurt my weight!
Keep on telling us how this is going.
PS The elimination is probably from lack of fiber and will correct (or over correct) when you get back to food.
