This past Saturday we ran a mock 5 k in my running group. It was my first 3 mile run since I started running again after the surgery. IN JUNE 26TH 2010 I ran my first 5 K. Miles for Marines. It was one of the hardest things I had ever done and I was so happy when I finished in 36:12 minutes.By the time I ran my sixth 6th k I was finishing in 29:08 minutes. I am proud to say that I ran my first 3.1 miles after a year long of pain, surgery, AND rehabilitation. I FINISHED IN 36:12 minutes. The same time as my very first. emoticon Now most people who have already ran 6 5 k,s, a 10 k, and a half marathon wouldn't be surprised of that finish time and may even have felt they could've done better. But I on the other hand am the proudest I've ever been. That's because I did not allow myself to set low expectations after my surgery. I didn't give up. I was determined to get back to doing what I love to do even if it would take me forever to get there again. Although this wasn't a race it was just our running coach checking our times, I feel as if I won the best race of all. I CAME IN FIRST IN MY EYES. My point is, DON'T EVER GIVE UP. Have faith in yourself because emoticon just like I did. SPARKPEOPLE.COM has given me more then a means to learning to live a healthy lifestyle. It has given me the courage, strength, confidence, and perseverance of NOT giving up. It has taught me that each day is a new day and that if I fall off the wagon, whether it's through meals, exercise, an injury or even a major surgery, you can start over again tomorrow. Because tomorrow is a new day again.
