Time to blog again... :)

Monday, February 06, 2012

Wow, can't believe how fast time passes!!! It's been a while since I have done this, but here goes...

First of all, everything is going pretty well. I went to the Dr. on Tuesday of last week to have a checkup and get blood drawn for checking cholesterol, insulin levels, thyroid levels... you name it. Just wanna be sure that I am not going in the wrong direction here. :) I have been diagnosed with Sciatica. For those of you who do not know what that is, here is my best discription... It hurts like H*LL. :( It has to do with your longest nerve in your body, your sciatic nerve. Some people experience numbness from your lower back to your feet, others PAIN. Well, unfortunately I am experiencing the pain. Workouts have been pretty much Nil. I want to workout, but why, when I know I'm going to be in pain the entire time I'm doing it??! So, on Tuesday I got put on a steroid for 10 days and a Physical Therapy session today. We will see how that goes. Hope it helps. The steroid has helped immensely, but you can't take it very long, or it will start causing problems for your liver... and DREADED WEIGHT GAIN! Go figure that something that helps the situation, can actually cause harm. :( This steroid gives me energy, makes me feel good, but I can already feel a difference since I take 2 for 5 days and then go down to 1 for the next 5 (which is what I started yesterday), dull pain is setting in. Not good. :(

On a positive note, I must be rubbing off on my hubby to want to lose weight. He quit smoking (after 31 years) and promptly put on 23lbs. So I told him that he needed to take time for himself and focus on losing it for himself. It doesn't bother me, but when I can see how frustrated he is with it, it does bother me. He's lost 2lbs so far and has only been working out for 2 weeks, so Yeah him!! I just want him to feel good about himself and to know that I'm not looking at his weight, but I am looking out for his health! I want him to be around for a long time. :)

Everyone is healthy and doing well. I got my eating pretty much down to a science and ready to incorporate my exercise into that equation. Hopefully this PT session will give me some pointers to stretch out my right side and get back into putting eating healthy and exercising regularly a necessity.

That's what's going on with me! Thanks so much for all of the support I get on here. I know that I can't do this without you! Hope you have a super week! Eat great, make good choices, and exercise!!! We can do this!!! :)

Oh No!! I remember years ago, my sister kicked me off the bed and I landed on my tailbone and that hurt my sciatica for quite a long time! I thought it hurt VERY.BAD.INDEED back then!! So I can empathize with your pain. I hope the PT sessions can help get you some relief ASAP as you don't want to be on the steroid paradox (pain relief but weight gain!!) very long.

Thanks for the update. Sorry about your diagnosis. I can imagine that must be frustrating for you. Hopefully, you can find a combination of pain management and weight loss that works. Hang in there!

Good to catch up with you! I need to blog too--lot's happening.
I hope you get some relief for the sciatica. That has got to be terrible. Kuddos to your hubby for quitting smoking and starting to exercise! You have been a great positive influence on your family!

Oh man! I'm so sorry about the sciatica!! That's awful! I don't think you should be doing anything strenuous at all. Maybe just some walking if you can tolerate it. Don't make it worse!! I'm so sorry. Seems like when we are trying to be good....something bad happens. I sure hope you are feeling better soon. Hang in there!! If you have the eating thing down then you will be ok. That weight will still come off.

I am so glad your hubby is doing so great. Woo hoo for him! Tell him your sparkfriends are cheering him on too :)

Did the rest of your tests turn out ok? I sure hope so. I hope you have a great week. Keep in touch with how you are feeling. I'm worried about you! emoticon
