Really High Cholesterol

Saturday, February 04, 2012

Had some blood work done last week and my cholesterol is "extremely high". This didn't come as much of a surprise since everyone on my Mom's side of the family has had problems with it. I am now tracking my cholesterol intake too on my daily nutrition tracker. Going for my follow-up appointment this week to find out what kim of Rx she is going to put me on. Just hope we can afford them!

I have a cousin-by-marriage who has the same high-cholesterol problem. Apparently it runs in her dad's side of the family, as everyone on his side in recent memory suffered from it. Of the four kids in her generation, two of them - she and her brother - have it, two don't. Even tho she's careful about her diet, she has to take medicine (as does her brother) and that doesn't necessarily do the trick. Her 90-something-year-old mother? Nary a problem, and insists on having her bacon and fried eggs every morning! Myself, I'd like to be as spry and nimble as she is - but I think a big plateful of fried food would do me in, lol...

Hello--sorry about your cholesterol news. Mine was high, too, and those cholesterol lowering drugs caused me a lot of pain (mostly shoulder) and exhaustion. I eliminated all animal products from my diet and in three months my cholesterol was very good, my A1C (blood sugar average) was great (after having been on meds for pre-diabetes), I lost 30 pounds and my cystic acne cleared up.

Just saying' what worked for me. I hope you find a great solution, too!

I dramatically lowered my cholesterol by going quasi-vegetarian....pretty much eat meat only a couple of times a week...and I'm feeling really great on this diet levels are so good my doc was amazed...she even thought she had put me on meds to reduce it...obviously her asking me about eliminating the med (that I wasn't taking) didn't give me a warm and fuzzy about just how much she knew about me...
