Another scare

Thursday, February 02, 2012

I tell you, my family knows how to give me the major stress test. My brother came home Monday night to take care of my parents- reduce my stress. Tuesday morning I am relaxing and get a call from him "Doris I need you." I thought he was joking, imitating my mom who says that all the time. No, he woke up with double vision and couldn't walk. I get there he also has unequal pupils. Needless to say 911. I thought he had a stroke at 45 years of age or some type of brain injury. The ER thought so too. He was in CAT scan so quick. Then an MRI because everything kept coming back fine. Major relief for me even when 1st scan came back fine. Lab was good. Long story short, he is a medical mystery still for the neurologist. They know the one muscle in the eye isn't working well. He said if he was a 75 yo diabetic he would say he had a mini stroke to the nerve that goes to that muscle. But he doubts it. So I took him home yesterday to my parents house because now he can walk-brain adjusted. Thankfully some things have gotten better- he can walk, pupils are equal, double vision comes and goes. Sees the eye specialist tomorrow. The day it happened he was supposed to fly to California from Ohio for work. Thank goodness it happened here and not there. so I am back to one day at a time. Still scary not knowing what it was but thankful not major stroke or tumor.

Doris...that really was scary! Wow!! I'm so glad for him and for you that it wasn't a major stroke. You are right that your family really has the ability to scare you. Yikes!!! I hope things stay calm with your brother and that he doesn't become another family member for you to end up caring for.
Hugs,
Kay

Best wishes for his continued recovery, and I hope the doctors can solve the mystery of what caused his condition!
