During lunch, as I peeled a grapefruit, I got to thinking about this Grapefruit Diet my mother went on once or twice when I was younger. I can't remember what it consisted of, except eating a lot of grapefruit.
Then I got to thinking about more of these silly diets, like the Cabbage Soup Diet. The Slim Fast Diet (or as my mom referred to it, Slim Slime). How about the fairly recent marketing ploy by Taco Bell, the Drive Thru Diet. Or The Special K Diet. I'd even throw in things like the South Beach Diet and the Atkins Diet.
I don't know much about any of those, but I feel like restricting certain foods/food groups or limiting food intake to a specific product or system (i.e. Nutrisystem, Jenny Craig) is not really teaching people about how to be healthy. Sure, there's weight loss with these diets. But what happens when you start to eat other things again? Or do you have to commit to substituting two meals a day for cabbage soup for the rest of your life? As someone who likes to run, there's no way I could give up carbs for the rest of my life.
I know there's probably plenty of articles and other peoples' opinions about fad diets on here, but I was just thinking about some of the silly ones that I could remember. Feel free to comment on some of the other ones out there.
