Wisdom teeth only lead to pain

Monday, January 30, 2012

So I've been pretty much out of commission for the past week and a half. I had two wisdom teeth waiting around in the wings for quite some time. The lower one had started poking through and I figured I could just wait for it to come out. Apparently, despite all the brushing and mouthwash diligence, it managed to get infected. My mouth was swollen and I had a fever.

So, the dentist said I should get it out as there is is not enough room for it to actually come through all the way. Annnnd, just for fun, we should take out the one on top because it is perpendicular to my jaw.

I've spent the past few days recuperating from the Friday surgery. Everything seems to be healing okay so far although a bit sore. I'm not supposed to work out until at least Friday because raising your blood pressure and heart beat can cause the blood clot to come out. If the clot comes out, you can end up with what they call dry socket, which is apparently very very painful.

It's such a bummer to have gotten in a habit, been working hard, and then be derailed.

I am sorry you are having such a hard time with your wisdom teeth. I still have mine at 62, I am very fortunate. Two of my sons had to have them removed. I don't know which hurt worse: the removal or the bill.
