When we have a bump in the road...

Monday, January 30, 2012

Friday after work I was on my way to the gym and I had a flat tire. I was slowing down for a red light where I turn into my gym parking lot and I hear the ..."flop...flop...flop". Luckily I was right at a tire repair/tire store so I pulled in to have them look at it. They were so nice and helpful and after taking the tire off, found it un-repairable, so they put on my spare. And I was on my way...

The point of this blog is how do we respond to those "bumps in the road"? I don't know about you but I have to pump myself up to workout. I have to get my head right and attitude right to get my workout done. So when my "bump in the road" occurred Friday night, the thoughts started going through my head...Geese, that's it, I'm done I'm going home! And, I'm not in the mood to workout now. But, I stopped myself from the negative thoughts and started looking at the situation in a more positive light. I realized how lucky I was for it to happen when it did and where it did. The weather was perfect, no rain or cold temps to have to deal with. So as I pulled out of the tire business I decided that I wasn't going to allow what just happened to take away the opportunity I had to go workout and make improvements in myself.

So the moral of this blog is, "Don't allow a flat tire to take the air out of your sails, just find another way to fill your sails so you can reach your destination".

Wishing you all fair sailing but when you do have that dump in the road, turn your boat in another direction and find the wind to fill your sails~

Love it. I actually have a similar story: I had only been at my job for about two weeks and I was on my way to work when I mysteriously blew a passenger tire (so I couldn't just pull over, because of the curbs)...nearest parking lot...THE FIRE DEPARTMENT!! Oh yeah. After only two minutes of my struggling to get my spare out of my trunk (the bolt that held it in place had rusted), I had four hot firemen...OK, so only three were hot, but I had the help of four...changing my tire for me. My boss was not only sympathetic, but she wanted all the details. WooHoo...I'll take those kinda bumps any day!
    Great attitude, lady...keep it up!

YES! The first thing I thought as I was reading where the flat happened was, "How fortunate that you were right by the tire shop!" I'm glad you were able to turn off the negative self-talk and take the opportunity to do something good for yourself. The value of that will go a long way the next time you have a decision to make regarding choices. The more you make the good choices, the more you feel like the kind of person who makes good choices! I'm proud of you! Hope you got the new tire on now. Drive safe!
