EEK! Another goal met!

Sunday, January 29, 2012

Okay - I am crazy excited about this: I have hit another "Happy Plateau". The kind you pass through on your way to being healthier and thinner! As I said yesterday - I have made mini-goals of losing 2.5 pounds and then moving on. So I started at 165.5. My first goal was 160, but I felt overwhelmed even by that. So I decided I can do 2.5 in my sleep right? I have been yo-yo-ing around with 2.5 pounds at a time for years! I just want to keep going in the same direction this time! So I hit 162.5, then I hit 160 this morning!

This is all when my kiddies are home with the flu and I am having trouble getting my exercise in. I had actually lost over 10 pounds this summer while we were in France. When you go to France you suddenly understand why those people are thin - and they ARE thin. The reason is threefold:

1) Everyone around them is thin.
2) They eat only 3 small meals a day - naturally following the "plate" method.
3) They walk absolutely everywhere. The two families that we exchanged with did not own a car, and their apartments had to be walked up flights of stairs to get to.

I love walking, I love not calorie counting (you do have to understand composition though - what you eat DOES matter a lot - the French eat lots of salad (yummy olive oil based dressings), cheese (just very small portions), and breads (bought fresh daily - and consumed in small portions. Their meats are of course perfect - but are served in small portions as well. In the south, the heavy emphasis on seafood only makes sense as to why they are seemingly even more slender than in Paris.

Anyway, when I returned home, I lost sight of this with the business of life - my passion for sitting down in my mini-van when we are late for school, and eating at fast food joints (the false thinking that hunger is an emergency...). I'm back at it - and I feel happy passing through these mini-goals for myself.

I can't wait to have the kiddies better and get walking them to school!

I hope these easy things work for you too!

Your statement of 'hunger is not an emergency' struck a chord with me - I need to remember that! Good one.
