Missing Chinook

Saturday, January 28, 2012

On Wednesday we brought our dog to the vet to check out of there was something stuck in his throat. He had been having a little trouble eating so we thought we would get it checked out. After the vet put him under to see what the problem was she found some really bad news. Chinook had a very large, aggressive and inoperable tumor growing in his throat. She said it was so bad that he would only last a few more days and the kindest thing to do would be to let him go. We had to make a very tough decision and will miss our furry family member terribly.
I am surprised at how much Chinook's untimely passing (He was only middle age and we expected to share another 6-8 years with him) threw off my schedule and my healthy lifestyle. I took the family out to eat because I didn't want to cook and we needed a distraction. Exercise went out the window for two days and I overate (hmmm- maybe I do some emotional eating!) It has taken a few days, but today I am close to being back on track.
Missing our buddy and saddened by our loss.

Sorry that you had to put your beautiful Chinook to sleep. I agree with SKINNYLUMPKIN, remember the good times you had about him. My uncle out in Nebraska had to do that with his 17 year old Husky named Kimuk. It was hard on him. We had to put to sleep a Beagle mix back in 2007 at the age of 13 because of health problems. It's hard to put a pet to sleep. They're like part of the family especially like your kid.

What a beautiful boy he was. I am so sorry for your loss. Grief is grief, whether it is for a human family member or a beloved pet. Be forgiving of yourself, and may you find comfort in shared memories. emoticon
