2012 Blog #7: Restaurant Tests to Pass

Thursday, January 26, 2012

For the past two days, I've been in a work conference, complete with team dinner, group lunch, and even an outing to an NBA game. I made a commitment going into the conference that, no matter what, I would not go off the Paleo eating plan: I'm come to far, I've seen excellent results, I feel great (if a little hungry at times), and the eating challenge supports a charity I love so much (see here for more info: http://atthecrossroads.org/cam
paign/lynncharles).

I'm happy to say that I've passed the restaurant tests (for the most part: who knows if the egg drop soup was truly Paleo, even though there was no soy or gluten, per the waiters)! The first night's dinner was at a brewpub. While my compadres ate pizza, burgers, and fries, I ordered a garden salad, followed by a clean 10oz steak (no potatoes, no blue cheese). The basketball game followed right after and, as much as I wanted ice cream (it didn't help that a kid in the row in front of me had a huge cone), I successfully resisted buying any snacks! The group lunch today was at a Chinese restaurant, where I requested beef and broccoli, no soy sauce, no rice.

I don't think I'm necessarily losing any weight this week, because the volume of meat I've eaten the past two days was pretty substantial, but I look leaner, the clothes are still loose, and the energy level has finally jumped!

Eating properly while traveling is one of the hardest things to do! Great job, and thanks for the inspiration!
