Geek Burlesque is Best!

I'm happy to report that I did go for a 35min walk after I posted my last update. The next day I did some snow shovelling & went for a short skate outdoors. Yesterday ended up being super lazy though. I had planned to either walk to or from my evening plans, but ended up getting a drive both ways.

This weekend's been really social for me, which is wonderful on so many levels (getting me out of the house, making me laugh tons, experiencing new places), but has been hard on my body. It's been a long time since I've had more than just a beer or two for two nights in a row. The boys & I did a mini-pub crawl Friday night, going to 3 different bars. While I did keep my pace slower & got some water, it wasn't enough water and I was really dehydrated the next morning. I don't regret it though because it was fun & I adore the beer at the first bar (Clocktower Christmas Porters are like the nectar of the gods). Plus, I came home & tracked them and because I hadn't eaten a ton that day, I wasn't too far over my calories for the day. Yesterday was a lazy day in, though we weren't hung over. We just snuggled on the couch & watched X-Men First Class.

Last night was awesome though! It's what the title of this post refers to: a geeky burlesque show! It was at a bar that I'd never heard of before and I ended up there 50min early because I wrote down the wrong start time. I was really proud of myself because I went by myself & hung out alone for that time, until a friend showed up just in time for the show. It was a great vaudeville style mix with burlesque, drag kings, comedy routines, singing & lip synching. Some of the themes were "The Big Bang Theory", "Star Trek", "Star Wars" (Boba Fett FTW!), "Spy vs. Spy", was just all around amazing! I love when women really own their bodies and have fun with it. It's so sexy and fun, no matter the size of the woman.

One of my guy friends arrived 15min before the end to check it out as well. A mini-dance party was held between the three of us after the show for a bit, and then he suggested we go see the strip club in Gatineau. We dropped off my other friend & then headed over. While it was a nice strip club, I noted immediately how different the atmosphere is and how even though the women on stage were gorgeous, with incredible strength (the pole moves always impress me), it wasn't sexy to me. It's the difference between a job and a fun hobby. We had a beer and some food (I was STARVING, and so made poor food choices) and chatted about life and the differences between stripping and burlesque in how we experienced it, and the differences in the strip clubs. I've only been to one before, back in NB, and it was definitely a really dirty, sketchy place, whereas this one in Quebec was nice, though with some tacky bits. Another huge difference was that at the club last night, the women got completely naked. A huge change from the burlesque show with their g-strings & pasties! While I'm not against strip clubs, I'm realizing that I find being there kind of depressing and am not sure that I'll go again.

Today I'm rather dehydrated (again), so I've already started packing the water to myself. I've let G-Man sleep an extra 2h more than me, but I think it's about time I wake him up.

Today's focus is thesis-related, with the addition of going to buy a filter for the shop vac we bought (FINALLY!) so G-Man can work on cleaning the basement this week before his sister & her bf visit for the weekend.
