Food tracker public or not?

Sunday, January 22, 2012

Today I read a SP article about a man who lost 225 lbs. He credits making his food tracker public with helping to keep him on track during his current maintenance. I don't recall seeing any of the spark pages i've visited with this info.
I am considering doing this. Does anyone see a downside to making my food tracker public?

Mine isn't public, I think in the beginning when I set it up I was just unsure about the pros and cons of making it public. I can say that I'm really honest about what I eat in my tracker and I think that comments that I've read have said that the publicity of the tracker makes them more accountable. That said, if you are not making it public and you are consistent and honest AND you are making the progress that you want to see then, don't fix what isn't broken. If you need the accountability then by all means, share it and see what others have to say...

Interesting question, thanks for posing it. K.

Mine are public as well however most of the time I log in a different place that is not online which is easier for me.

Mine's public and I track everything. I haven't gotten ANY comments on it at this point (which is probably good to not get negative comments? :)

I find seeing other trackers helps me get ideas for meals, carb/protein/fat combos, and to see how the 'other side' lives.

Do what makes you comfortable.

While I haven't tracked in some time, my food tracker has always been public. I think the only possible negative is that you may get comments on what you are eating such as "Do you realize ______ is not very good for you?" and "I am eating _____ and it is working great for me." I think as long as your skin is reasonably thick there is no real problem and there is always the possibility someone might say something that is helpful.

    Mine has always been public!

To the right hand side of a page, there is a button to click to see them.

I have been "invited" to check out a couple of trackers but certainly haven't looked for others. I don't track every day so mine would be a waste of time for most people. My accountabilty comes from putting my real weight on the team page rather than just the kg lost on my ticker.
I'm sure there is some advantage to you, accountability is good.
best wishes, Sandra

Mine's public but I don't know if anyone actually looks at it! Don't see any negatives.
