The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

The good; I've finally made it to ONEderland!!! It's been 17 to 18 years since I've been under 200 pounds and it feels great. 14 months ago I was 254 pounds. Today I weigh 198. I'm not at my goal weight yet, but I already feel more confident, fit and healthy.

Last week I rode with a local cycling group. I was chatting with another rider who was on a new bike - some expensive Italian job. He was telling me his new ride was 3 pounds lighter than the one he had last season and expected to climb much better this year. He was surprised when I told him I was down 30 pounds since last season and was pretty sure climbing would be a whole new experience for me - which it was.

The bad; I caught a bug Thursday night. It hit me during spinning class. I finished the class, but just barely. I almost never get sick. In fact it's been three years without so much as a funny nose, so I'm not very good at it. Friday was spent in bed with a fever. Today the fever broke so I went ahead and ran in the Frosty's Frozen 5 mile race. Obviously I didn't set any records, but I did finish. My time was 53:02. I guess since I've never run a 5-mile race before this is a PR.

The ugly; Those of you with weak stomachs might want to stop reading now.

Okay, but don't say I didn't warn you.

    Congrats on onederland! and congrats on the 5 mile PR! That isn't a bad time at all1

    Since I started eating healthier and exercising regularly, I almost never get sick. I did twice this year, but as compared to those around me, it was less severe and I got through it much quicker.

    Way to go on the 5 mile run after being sick. That probably wasn't easy! You did a great job!

    I can relate about carrying less weight on your bike. I lost 30 pounds (and unfortunately gained some back) too. A friend of mine was commenting on how much extra weight having 2 flashers on my bike added. I told him, "Joe, I just lost thirty pounds! Do you think I give a s**t how much 2 flashers weigh?" Losing the weight sure does make climbing these eastern Tennessee hills easier!

    Oh, and I think I got you beat on the ugly feet! lol It's the number between those big toes that makes the feet look better!!
