I did it!!! I finally did it!!! Oh, yeah!! Oh, yeah!! I actually went out for dinner and stayed on program.
As per my plan on my last blog, I ate a light breakfast and lunch with lots of veggies, leaving me with adequate calories for a meal out (as long as I stayed with healthy choices). As it happened, what I had decided to order based on the menu on their website, was NOT on the menu that night. Luckily, the number of calories I had left to "spend" were firmly etched in my brain, and since I had considered a few other options earlier, I was able to quickly adjust my order. As per plan, I moved the bread basket out of my reach, and didn't have a problem with it. I just had the entree, didn't order another course, drank several glasses of water, and didn't finish everything on my plate. All in all, I had a very enjoyable evening with friends and still stayed on program.
So, why haven't I been able to do this with any consistency before? I honestly don't think I believed I could do it. This particular blog challenge forced me to really think about what I was doing. Thinking it all through, writing it all down, and getting incredible feedback and suggestions from SP members (thank you all so very much!!!) were definitely the keys to my success. This is a plan I can repeat and live with.
I don't have it down pat, however, and I know there are more things for me to work on to make sure that my next dining out experience is another no regrets evening. However,for now, I have some basics I can stick to and a bit more confidence that I can keep this streak going.
