Sometimes I Amaze Myself!

Wednesday, January 18, 2012

I did it!!! I finally did it!!! Oh, yeah!! Oh, yeah!! I actually went out for dinner and stayed on program.

As per my plan on my last blog, I ate a light breakfast and lunch with lots of veggies, leaving me with adequate calories for a meal out (as long as I stayed with healthy choices). As it happened, what I had decided to order based on the menu on their website, was NOT on the menu that night. Luckily, the number of calories I had left to "spend" were firmly etched in my brain, and since I had considered a few other options earlier, I was able to quickly adjust my order. As per plan, I moved the bread basket out of my reach, and didn't have a problem with it. I just had the entree, didn't order another course, drank several glasses of water, and didn't finish everything on my plate. All in all, I had a very enjoyable evening with friends and still stayed on program.

So, why haven't I been able to do this with any consistency before? I honestly don't think I believed I could do it. This particular blog challenge forced me to really think about what I was doing. Thinking it all through, writing it all down, and getting incredible feedback and suggestions from SP members (thank you all so very much!!!) were definitely the keys to my success. This is a plan I can repeat and live with.

I don't have it down pat, however, and I know there are more things for me to work on to make sure that my next dining out experience is another no regrets evening. However, for now, I have some basics I can stick to and a bit more confidence that I can keep this streak going.

emoticon Wow! It's so nice to see you rocking the food management, tracking & figuring out you don't have to splurge/overeat just because you happen to be eating out! Sparktacular!

Way to go! I needed to read this blog today as I have four social engagements coming up in the next week, all of which involve eating. We can plan to succeed no matter what we're doing. Good reminder!

As Cheeky1000 said, when your carefully planned choice was not on the menu, you forged ahead. I would have been mad and sure the world was plotting against me.

It's a plan that worked. Now it just has to be developed into the normal operating procedure. Good work.

Somewhere on Spark (I think) I read tips about eating out with friends. The article said the menu is even formatted so you will order basically what the restaurant wants you to order. Article also said that you should order first as to not be swayed by your friends.

Doh! Nothing like being a planner and then not having it on the menu. However, like a girlscout...you were prepared! You had a back up plan. That rocks! As much as I love a good plan, I love back up plans even more as I so often seem to need them (not really in reference to food, but life in general--lol).

Way to go!!

It always help to have a plan down in writing, even if you have to amend the plan mid-execution.
