What to do?? What to do??

Tuesday, January 17, 2012

It's cold here!!! -27*C & I have a scheduled run today. It's suppose to be like this ALL week. I knew the temperature was going to drop so I did my LSD (12km) on Saturday as appose to Sunday. And I have 2 scheduled runs this week that are 7km each. Do I brave the cold, bundle up & run. Or do I dust off my elliptical or go for a spin on my spin bike?

Normally I would just do something else..BUT I'm training for a half marathon in March.
I've been spoiled this winter with my training as the weather has been great...now it's just freezing out. I'm thinking I should just brave the cold, as it could be this cold the day of the race. (And yes the race will be still going if it's -30* as it's called the Hypothermic Half) SO do I suck it up & prepare myself for possible freezing weather on race day or do I stay inside where it's nice & warm? What to do? What to do??

I'm also questioning my new thoughts...trying a triathlon. Sure I can bike & run...but SWIMMING?? & do all 3 together (I've never even done 2 on the same day)!!! YIKES. I can swim okay...It's not pretty sight, as I don't have proper form. I'm thinking about getting it over with, stop thinking about it & just try out lane swim tomorrow morning....but I'm scared. I've seen some of the lane swimmers at night & they're hard core & not to friendly. I have heard before that the morning swimmers are nicer & alttle more laid back. BUT...I know I'm gonna be SLOW & I'm just scared. What are the swimmers rules...Can you join a lane with someone else in the lane? How do you know which lane to go in?? What to do? What to do??

Brrr cold and walking or running, it is a big accomplishment!

Swimming sounds warmer in the winter but I understand what you mean about people who don't stay in their own lane!

Hang in their stay warm

Hugs

We have been spoiled by the unseasonably warmer weather, haven't we? Hope the weather cooperates for marathon in March.

Many malls in my area open early for walkers. Perhaps you could inquire and run there on those bitter days? You should "suck it up" and train in the cold, but I understand your reticence. Lood Guck!

In the immortal words of Nike... Just do it! But dress appropriately if you do brave the cold, of course.

Can you find an indoor track for those so very freezing days? I know I am chicken when it come to the cold. If you go dress for it and take water with you as well.
Have a good run.

emoticon I used to be a swimmer and I know what you mean about not to friendly swimmers.

Here's what I used to do: I would never just jump in a lane and start swimming. Find a lane that is going around your speed and sit in the lane at the side of the pool. When the swimmer gets to the side, just say hi and ask to join. That swimmer will probably recommend splitting a lane or do circle swimming (when there are more than 2 to a lane). I've seen swimmers jump unannounced in a lane and get nailed. Swimming is fun. Just do it!!!

Sounds like our weather here. Be careful if you go out, dress well, watch out for the windchill if you go!
